Responsibilities
The Senior Property Claims Specialist position is responsible for the quality handling and resolution of a wide variety of commercial property claims in a timely and professional manner with emphasis on providing quality service while controlling expenses. This position routinely handles claims involving coverage issues, significant damages and other claims that require specialized handling.
Key functions include but are not limited to the following:
1. Review new losses and appropriately manage claims through coverage analysis, investigation, damages evaluation, reserving and resolution on commercial property claims, including some litigated property claims.
2. Provide excellent customer service to meet the needs of the insured, agent and all other internal and external customers.
3. Evaluate property estimates and bills for accuracy and applicability to coverage relating to the type of claims submitted.
4. Direct independent adjusters on inspection assignments to assure timeliness and quality in the claim handling process. Assure expenses are reasonable.
5. Establish timely and accurate claim and expense reserves and maintain proper reserving throughout the life of a claim.
6. Negotiate and convey claim settlements within authority limits.
7. Participate in regional round table meetings as needed.
8. Write Reservation of Rights and Coverage Denial letters and other complex correspondence.
9. Maintain an effective dairy system and document claim file activities in accordance with established procedures.
10. Manage file inventory to ensure timely resolution of cases.
11. Handle files in compliance with state regulations.
12. Investigate claims for potential fraud and work with designated SIU (Special Investigation Unit) personnel.
13. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• BA/BS Degree Preferred or equivalent work experience
• 5 + years’ property claim experience preferred, preferably commercial related
• Experience processing claims with an ultimate value of $1,000,000 +
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational and presentation skills
• Computer proficiency, working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
• Knowledge of Xactimate and Xactanalysis preferred
• Independent adjusters’ licenses for states of: AL, GA, MS, NC, SC & TN and/or ability to obtain licenses within 90 days of hire
