Our client is a global biopharmaceutical company pioneering innovative therapies for challenging diseases. They have two approved medicines targeting C3 and nearly a dozen clinical and pre-clinical programs underway. The Accounting Manager will oversee the general accounting function for North America and manage the month-end close process, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and related activities. Reporting to the Controller, this role ensures compliance with accounting standards, streamlines processes, and supports internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee monthly close processes, ensuring timely completion of tasks, including journal entries and reconciliations.
- Prepare or review balance sheet reconciliations, variance analyses, and accrual calculations.
- Assess transactions for proper accounting treatment and compile schedules to support journal entries (e.g., leases, debt, and capital transactions).
- Review monthly bank reconciliations and monitor compliance with debt covenants.
- Respond to ad-hoc accounting queries and coach/train staff accountants.
- Maintain Blackline account reconciliations and monthly close checklists.
- Support external audits by providing requested documentation.
- Identify and implement improvements to streamline the monthly close process.
- Assist with treasury-related tasks and other projects as assigned.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA preferred.
- Experience: 5+ years in accounting, with a mix of public and industry experience preferred.
- Preferred: Experience in life sciences and/or publicly traded companies.
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP accounting and reporting requirements.
- Detail-oriented with flexibility to handle short-notice reporting requests.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Teams, etc.).
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Knowledge of SAP S4 Hana and Blackline is a plus.
- Proactive approach to process improvement and willingness to take on new challenges.
