Summary/Objective
The Clinical Secretary is responsible for the clerical duties on the nursing unit.
Essential Job Duties

- Accurately transcribes physicians' orders to various forms and computer order system, transcribes medication orders to the MAR, assures completion of STAT orders, notifies nurse of new orders and assures orders are double checked for transcription accuracy by nurse. Refers telephone and verbal orders to licensed nurse. Notes initials date and time on orders transcribed.
- Answers patient nurse call system promptly and courteously; Refers urgent requests to nurse immediately. Carries out receptionist duties for the department by answering the telephone, taking and relaying messages, greeting patients and directing visitors to appropriate area, replying to patient calls and locating appropriate nursing staff.
- Prepares charts for new patients. Assembles associated forms for the maintenance of hard copy charts. Maintains adequate quantity of all office supplies. Ensures completed charts on discharged patients are sent to Medical Records according to established guidelines.
- Maintains current and projected census on the unit in collaboration with the Director/Registered Nurse and utilizes the bed express system to facilitate admission and discharge procedures.
- Posts diagnostic study reports on medical records after reports have been evaluated by Registered Nurse. Prints data from computer system when requested by patient's physician or licensed staff.
- Assists in keeping nursing station and department clean and neat. Follows cleaning schedule. Assists with keeping track of all equipment and supplies used in the unit.
