POSITION OVERVIEW
The County Tax Appeal Board Secretary is responsible for scheduling and is required to attend all hearings and record all testimony and deliberations before the CTAB. This position is also responsible for the prep work before the hearing. A critical part of the secretary's job is to "make the record" of the hearing, by using a digital recording program. This position prepares the attendance sheet, tracks the affiliation of all participants, and keep records of all exhibits in the form of documents, photographs, maps, and other documentary evidence. This position reports to the County Administrator and does not supervise staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
This work requires knowledge of state and county laws, rules, and procedures; reading and interpreting legal descriptions and documentation; records management; research methods; customer service techniques; skill in the use of various computer software and systems; and the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. This work also requires knowledge of appropriate sources of information needed to carry out administrative and program support, and knowledge of secretarial operations and equipment, and related clerical support functions.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
The required knowledge, skills, and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school plus one (1) year job-related work experience.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
As a condition of hire, the final candidate will be required to successfully pass a criminal history check and background investigation.

Sheriffs' Retirement System (SRS) - A public pension plan for all Montana Sheriffs hired after July 1, 1974 and Detention Officers hired after July 1, 2005.
Supplemental Retirement Benefits are offered through Nationwide and Empower.
Sick Leave - Full-time employees accrue 7.40 hours per month and are eligible to use sick leave once it is accrued. The accrual is pro-rated for part-time employees.
Vacation Leave - Full-time employees accrue 9.20 hours per month and are eligible to use leave once it is accrued. The accrual is pro-rated for part-time employees.
Holidays - The County observes eleven legal holidays in even numbered years and ten legal holidays in odd numbered years.
Paid Parental Leave (PPL)- In recognition of the importance of bonding and care of a newborn child or a child placed for adoption, Gallatin County provides 240 hours of PPL to eligible full-time employees. The hours are pro-rated for part-time employees.
