Eastern Oregon University (EOU) is currently accepting applications for a Full-Time, 1.0 FTE, 12-month Custodian to work in the Facilities Department.
The Custodian maintains the cleanliness and general appearance of work spaces, classrooms, lecture halls, athletic facilities, meeting rooms, and buildings throughout the EOU campus. The Custodian also assists in staging and preparing areas for campus activities, and serves as a moving person during office-to-office and building-to-building moves.
As the occasional point of first contact for students, staff, and the general public, and when working in teams with other Facilities and University personnel, Custodians have the responsibility for positive communication and productive teamwork in courteous personal and professional manners.

Responsibilities
- Perform an array of custodial duties: sweep, dust-mop, scrub, strip, wax and polish floors; clean chalk boards, white boards and trays; dust furnishing, wash windows, spot wash walls; vacuum and spot clean upholstered furniture, vacuum and spot clean carpets, shampoo carpets; remove cobwebs; clean lamps and fixtures; empty trash and recycle bins and move contents to dumpsters; clean table's, desks, dressers, bed's, clean kitchen appliances clean showers, clean laundry rooms, clean and disinfect drinking fountains; fill in for other custodians as required.
- Clean and disinfect all restrooms including fixtures, dividers, doors, floors, and walls; clean and shine mirrors; replenish supplies to include toilet paper, paper towels, soap dispensers, feminine napkin bags, toilet seat covers and feminine and condom product dispensers.
- Arrange furniture and chairs in classrooms and common areas as part of cleaning duties
- Clean and maintain stairways, entryways, and sidewalks of snow, ice and dirt/debris to within twenty (20') of the entrances to each building. In times of heavy snowfall, may be required to assist in shoveling sidewalks in other areas.
- Setup and tear down equipment, chairs, tables, staging, etc. for on-campus activities. This may require occasional off-campus trips to collect extra tables and chairs; move furnishing from office to office and building to building during campus moves.
- Make minor repairs, perform light maintenance using common hand tools associated with maintenance trade; make minor repairs to custodial equipment as required and directed by custodial supervisor; make minor adjustments, i.e.; tighten loose bolts, screws, etc.; oil hinges, change chair glides, remove faucet aerators and clean/replace same; remove broken furniture; repair carpet seams with duct tape until proper repairs can be made. Replace non-working light bulbs in a variety of fixtures at various heights.
- Incumbent makes important decisions involving proper mixing of cleaning products; health and safety issues; establishing cleaning timelines and schedule of events; awareness of room usage and availability for campus events; assigning work to students as necessary; and maintaining good working relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
- Physical ability to stand and walk on a consistent basis and be able to lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds; be able to climb ladders and use various lifts; be able to repeatedly bend, squat, and reach, twist hands, wrists, shoulders, waist and hips; and must have good hand dexterity including grasping, holding and repetitive movements.
- Ability to understand and obey all safe work practices and safety rules involving hazardous cleaning materials, proper lifting, walking surfaces, machine operating safety, emergency response and building regulations.
- Basic computer skills, good communication skills, both oral and written, reading skills, and positive interpersonal skills necessary for working with others in an effective team fashion.
- Must be able to follow instructions and receive supervision on a regular and frequent basis.
- Must satisfactorily complete EOU criminal and credential background check. Having a criminal history is not an automatic bar to employment.
