Academy Camps is an overnight sports-specific sleepaway camp experience that takes place on the campuses Blair Academy (NJ) and Suffield Academy (CT). We are seeking an Associate Director to be a member of our camp leadership team and coaching staff.

Who we are

Academy Camps is a modern approach to the sports camp experience. We offer 1- and 2-week sessions for Boys & Girls aged 10 - 15 interested in baseball, basketball, field hockey, football, golf, lacrosse, running, soccer, softball, squash, swimming, tennis & volleyball. Our campers choose one of our 13 "Academy Sports" and receive 2 intensive training sessions per day with our high-performance coaching staff.

We are a dedicated team of high performance coaches, nurturing & exemplary counselors, and experienced camp professionals, passionate about the 'whole athlete'. Outside of sports specific training sessions, AC is distinguished in delivering programming focused on its pillars of Performance, Wellness, Mindset, and Leadership mixed in with a healthy dose of fun through a daily schedule of traditional sleepaway camp activities.

Position

As a member of the Leadership Team, the Associate Director plays a pivotal role in supporting and overseeing the camp operations. They support the Camp Director with the management of all campers and staff. The Associate Director is responsible for the operations and management of transportation plans, site budgets, and the school site relationship. They manage Administrative Manager and the Operations Assistants. This role requires both leadership and operational skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Camp Facing Leadership - Collaborate with the Camp Director to ensure seamless day-to-day leadership of the camp, promoting a camp culture grounded in Academy Camps' core values and fostering a positive, inclusive atmosphere for campers and staff.
  2. Camper & Staff Management - Support the Camp Director in managing the needs of campers and staff, addressing any concerns related to camper behavior, staff dynamics, or general well-being, while ensuring a safe and enriching camp experience.
  3. Transportation Management - Oversee all aspects of transportation logistics, including the coordination of camper arrival and departure, ensuring smooth execution of all travel plans with a focus on safety and efficiency.
  4. Site Budget Management - Take responsibility for managing the camp's site-specific budget, monitoring expenses, and ensuring all financial operations align with the camp's objectives and financial protocols.
  5. School Site Management - Serve as the primary liaison between Academy Camps and the host school site, fostering a strong relationship to ensure all facilities and resources are used effectively and respectfully.
  6. Accreditation Management - Lead the effort to get camp accredited ensuring that all policies, procedures, and operations are compliant with necessary regulations and best practices in the industry.
  7. Manage Operational Team - In conjunction with the Camp Director, oversee the Medical Team, Media Team, Operations Assistants, and Admin Manager to ensure operating standards are met or exceeded.

Your Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Bachelor's degree (or professional equivalent) + 4-6 years professional experience working in a role with well-aligned proficiencies
  • Experience working in a sports environment as a coach, athletic director, or operations manager or managing the operations of a summer camp environment is required
  • Additional experience with leading and administering programs that reflect the camp's population is desirable
  • Experience working with youth in sports or educational programs
  • An excellent relationship builder - quick to connect, build trust, and rapport
  • A goal-oriented coach - motivated to help our staff and athletes achieve their goals
  • A creative problem-solver - with an empathetic approach to customer service, team management, and ability to ask for help when needed
  • A growth mindset - an orientation towards learning and development; willing to receive and implement feedback and learn from mistakes


Expectations, Compensation, and Benefits
  • Available and on-site for the dates of the full summer session including staff pre-season training and post-camp: June 13 - August 3
  • Available starting May 1 to periodically (5-10 hours/wk) support pre-camp Leadership Team activities covering the following areas: Onboarding, Pre-Camp Welcome Calls, Travel Planning, and Pre-Season Training Development.
  • The AC compensation package is competitive and is commensurate with skills and experience. Compensation is $7,000-10,000 and includes room and board. Travel stipend provided to support relocation.
  • Reside on campus - room and board included on-site at both of our campuses with access to state-of-the-art athletic facilities, providing a seamless and immersive experience.
  • Option to increase compensation through Camper Referral Program: Earn $250 referral bonus for each camper enrolled.
