Ophthalmology Full Time 82992BR Job Summary
Responsible for overseeing the department's human resources function, working closely with faculty, PIs, and supervisors, to provide guidance on recruitments, leave management, performance management, voluntary and involuntary separations, and general administrative and operations of the Department of Ophthalmology. Reports directly to the Chief Administrative Officer who plays an integral role in the human resources high-stakes decisions that impact the department's resources, particularly when it comes to financial obligations. Administrative and Operations will include primarily HR policy and contract interpretation, initial workplace complaints, educational and clinical trainee programs, and department initiatives and compliance. Supervises administrative and professional staff to ensure smooth running of the administrative program. This position works closely with the Director of Faculty Academic Affairs who handles all of the faculty and non-faculty lifecycle actions: searches, merits and promotions; leaves, benefits, and separations. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $84,400 - $157,400 (Annual Rate). Department Description
The UCSF Department of Ophthalmology is one of the leading ophthalmology departments in clinical care, training, and research nationwide. The Department of Ophthalmology is one of the largest recipients of federal grant funds among peer departments. We are ranked 2nd in overall National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding in the country. Additionally, we have been the #1 recipient of the Research to Prevent Blindness funding nationwide with nearly $1.2 million granted in a single year. Overall, the Department has a wide-ranging portfolio of 60 active research grants. UCSF's renowned eye care services are in a state-of-the-art home, the Wayne and Gladys Valley Center for Vision (WGVCV). Located at UCSF's Mission Bay Campus, the center houses the Vision Clinics, where many of UCSF's eye care programs relocated, as well as research and teaching facilities. Ophthalmology conducts its patient care, teaching, research, and public service activities currently at multiple UCSF campuses: Parnassus, Mt. Zion, Veteran's Administration Medical Center (VAMC), San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH), East Bay, and Benioff Children's Hospital at Mission Bay and in Oakland. The Department sponsors numerous invited speakers, research seminars, journal clubs, as well as a postdoctoral training program focused on mentorship, networking, and recognition. The UCSF Department of Ophthalmology consists of approximately 300 full-time employees (FTE's) (including UCSF Health employees), including faculty, basic scientists, postdoctoral scholars, graduate students, residents, fellows, clinical, research, and administrative staff. Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related area and minimum five years of experience including at least three in a lead/supervisory role or equivalent experience/training. Solid knowledge of the organization's processes, protocols, and procedures with a focus on budget, account and fund management and/or personnel management within labor contract(s) and personnel policy. Solid knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques; human resources and risk management planning; accounting and payroll. Demonstrated skills in employee supervision and HR administration. Interpersonal skills to effectively motivate others. Solid skills to quickly evaluate complex issues and identify resolution. Solid knowledge of common organization-specific and other computer application programs. Solid organizational and customer service skills to effectively manage multiple priorities. Solid interpersonal communication skills to include verbal and written, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising, and counseling skills. Demonstrated commitment to projects and strong initiative. Preferred Qualifications
HR Certification. Experience with facilities management. Prior experience with UCSF financial policies and procedures. Prior experience with UCSF HR policies and procedures. Prior research administration experience. Knowledge of UCSF systems and administration (Weblinks, MyReport, Bearbuy, DOMBO Billing, Peoplesoft, MyExpense, OLPPS, MPM, SRS, Advance, employee funding worksheets, and EFW). Advanced proficiency with Photoshop, Dreamweaver, CSS, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
