Job Description Vertex is seeking to hire a Director, Access Strategy Analytics & Insights within the U.S. Market Access (USMA) department, who will be a key contributor in the Data & Analytics (D&A) Center of Excellence (COE) team. The role requires strong D&A experience as well as deep subject matter expertise of value & access strategies, with an in-depth understanding of U.S. pricing and reimbursement dynamics. This individual will lead the generation of market access specific insights that impact patient access to Vertex inline brands and pipeline therapies by informing contracting, payer accounts, trade, and distribution strategy activities. The ideal candidate will have strong proficiency in analytic tools, syndicated, secondary, and internal data resources. You will join a team of Vertexians who are passionate about patients, focused on driving positive results, strategically adept, and willing to be involved in hands-on execution. This position reports directly to the Senior Director, US Market Access Data & Analytics COE and is based onsite in Boston, MA (3 days onsite/2 days flexible). Key Responsibilities: Responsible for generating insights to elevate Vertex’s leadership position in Cystic Fibrosis and partner on the broader market access portfolio strategy with senior business stakeholders. Lead the delivery of Pipeline therapeutic area specific analytical insights in response to the evolving market access landscape, emerging themes, and trends. Drive “Data to Action” and develop KPIs as part of US market access launch readiness activities, including evaluating in-market analogues, pricing & contracting, payer/PBM landscape, clinic/hospital economics, employer groups, value-based agreements. Conduct investigative analytics to validate and/or quantify market access-related phenomena related to competitive or customer tactics. Identify value drivers through quantitative methods to inform options resulting in removal of barriers to access and improvement of brand value proposition. Perform claims analysis, identify market dynamics, build models (portraying risks, opportunities, and sensitivities) to quantify the impact of payer controls. Define channel, segment, and payer mix through proactive industry publications research, analysis of various data sources, and engagement with internal/external stakeholders. Inform and support pre- and post- contract evaluations with contract operations and administration teams, which may include volume and geographic considerations as well as utilization management trends. Manage stakeholders, such as functional VP’s, brand, and TA leads, in value & access decision making. Direct vendors and lead analytics to deliver compelling insights and formulating analytical strategies to address access barriers. Lead cross-functional team on strategic initiatives and train and mentor peers to deliver D&A capabilities. Partner with USMA CRM resource(s) to collaboratively develop and deliver account team insights. Partner with DTE (Digital Technology & Engineering), GIACO (Global Insights Analytics and Commercial Operations) members to describe the current state of the business and identify the factors influencing them (the “Why” behind the “What”). Serve as an advocate and develop strong partnerships in integrating market access insights across Vertex teams – Market Access Strategy, Pricing, Analytics & Contract Management (PACM), Commercial Analytics and the Field teams. Communicate impacts to utilization management, tiering, and formulary/medical policy on overall demand, use of therapeutic alternatives, and co-pay support. Qualifications & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline required (e.g., Engineering, Statistics, Economics, Finance); MBA, Master's or MPH desirable. 10+ years of experience in the biotech/pharmaceuticals industries in Managed Markets or in biopharma consulting (analytics, management, or strategic) post-MBA/PhD, with meaningful biotech/pharmaceuticals and quantitative decision support experience. This should include diverse US product launch experience across different therapeutic areas. 7+ years of experience in developing insights that inform value, access, reimbursement, and contracting strategies. Subject matter expertise in Health Plans, PBMs, Hospital Systems, Specialty Pharmacies and Healthcare Policy stakeholders. Proficiency in D&A with deep expertise in evolving U.S. Market Access strategies, payer account management, channel dynamics, payer/distribution channels (commercial, government, SP, GPOs, etc.). Demonstrated experience working with syndicated Market Access databases (IQVIA Xponent, MMIT etc.) and shipment data (852, 867, Integrichain, etc.). Strong analytical capabilities with expertise in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, SQL, SAS, Alteryx, PowerBI), with a working knowledge of analytical tools/software such as R, Python and data warehouse platforms (Snowflake). Ability to network with internal and external stakeholders capable of forming strong, productive partnerships. Strategic thinker who can see operational trends, identify necessary activities, and summarize their impact to the bigger strategic picture. Strong written and verbal communication skills, strong presentation skills to C-suite management and external stakeholders. Flexible, adaptable, diplomatic, and able to effectively deal with ambiguity. Ability to partner and communicate with senior leadership to support financial forecasting and analytics, and/or commercial launch planning. Strong story telling skills with the ability to distill complex information synthesized into concise, impactful messages.
