Full Time Salary range : $123,232 - $190,118 / year

Responsibilities*

Under physician supervision, coordinates care of acutely ill post-surgical patients in multiple settings. Specifically, role requires clinician to perform advanced diagnostic and therapeutic tasks associated with patients undergoing Thoracic Surgery procedures, including lung transplantation and complex re-operative esophageal surgery. The clinician will complete detailed histories and physicals and present pertinent data to the medical staff. Collect and interpret results from diagnostic tests, radiographic procedures, and clinical studies. Order tests and prescribe medications. Perform various diagnostic, therapeutic, and minor surgical procedures. Streamline the patient transfer process between levels of care, including writing discharge orders and communicating specific patient needs to team members. Comply with established standards for quality, patient safety, and reimbursement.

* Provide timely documentation of all patient care encounters. * Participate in educational meetings within the program, department, and institution. * Establish and maintain a collaborative team approach with all members of the team. * Demonstrate flexibility to meet demands of patients and families was well as division and department. * Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.

Required Qualifications*

* Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan. * Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP. * Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA). * State of Michigan Controlled Substance License required * Current DEA registration required * ACLS required (separate AHA approved BLS also required unless ACLS was completed through the UMHS Simulation Center). * Employment is contingent upon successful completion of the credentialing and privileging process. * In order to be considered for this position the applicant must have met or will have met all the required qualifications prior to the start date of employment.

Desired Qualifications*

* 3-5 Years Surgery Experience * Ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a collaborative team is required. * High level of critical thinking. Ability to prioritize assignments and manage a busy work environment. * High level of motivation to learn and participate in activities to improve patient care. * Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills are required. Professional appearance and demeanor are required. * Experience in surgery or emergency room/urgent care is desired. * 5 years cardiothoracic surgery experience strongly preferred.

Work Schedule

Hours: Shift/Hours/Days: Nighttime, variable schedule, including weekends, nights, and holidays as required by the service. Shifts are 12 hours in duration. Location: Work locations include University Hospital Inpatient
