The Opportunity:
The Parent Peer Specialist is a newly created position for North Central Health Care’s (NCHC) youth crisis services programs. The position works within a team, supporting youth and their families (parents, caregivers, guardians) in navigating the crisis system. The Parent Peer Specialist has lived experience with crisis services as a caretaker for a youth who has struggled with mental health and/or substance use and has engaged with supportive behavioral health services. This position provides support, guidance, and education and engages and encourages families to set their own goals utilizing available services during a crisis. This includes effective connections with NCHC youth service programs with the goal of supporting families in the community and reducing the need for admissions or re-admissions to higher levels of care.
The pay range for this role is $16.75 - $18.54 based on experience.

What You’ll Do:
- Uses lived experience and knowledge of the crisis system as tools in supporting youth and families
- Provides information and resources about crisis services, parenting, mental health, and substance use
- Connects with families via phone, text, in person on campus and in homes of families
- Supports families by identifying stressors and offers proactive support to prevent crisis situations
- Facilitates self-direction with team and discharge planning meetings
- Communicates effectively with team and treatment providers
- Provides ongoing support services to promote independence and recovery within the community
- Works effectively and collaboratively with colleagues, consumers, and community partners
- Participates in the Quality Improvement goals of the program and agency
- Ability to document notes accurately and timely
- Maintains regular and predictable attendance
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Certified as a Parent Peer Specialist, or able to be certified within 6 months of hire.
- Lived experience with crisis services as a caretaker for a youth who has struggled with mental health and/or substance use and has engaged with supportive behavioral health services.
- Preferred one to three years of relevant experience.
- Person-centered service in all interactions.
- Valid WI driver’s license and insurance coverage.
- Use of a personal vehicle.
- The pay range for this role is $16.75 - $18.54 based on education and experience.
- This job is full-time and in person.
