Summary
Our client is currently seeking applicants interested in an entry level position in the Land Surveying profession at our Baltimore office. The Survey Field Tech will perform surveying tasks, while learning the profession from the guidance of a Survey Party Chief. Recruits who pursue Land Surveying are typically interested in math, primarily geometry and trigonometry. Work will involve various tasks: boundary, right-of-way, easement, topographic, construction, subsurface utility locations, as-built, global positioning system (GPS), and geographic information system (GIS) mapping support work. This position will be exposed to various climatic and terrain conditions. Work is performed under the supervision of an office manager who assigns and inspects work to ensure that it is conducted in accordance with client requirements and with accepted surveying standards. Our client will support an eager candidate that has the proficiency to learn and welcome new challenges.
The Land Surveying profession attracts people interested in geology, forestry, history, engineering, computer science, and astronomy. The Land Surveying profession has opportunities for the ambitious candidate to further their education. A full-time employee can enroll for an online degree or in-person at CCBCs evening classes. Our client has a tuition reimbursement plan to help with costs. Also, there are available scholarships for candidates. The pinnacle of the Land Surveying profession is a Licensed Professional Land Surveyor, which is in extreme high demand and a path that our client will encourage.
Requirements
Work is assigned by a Survey Crew Chief or other supervisor who provides instructions and assistance on unusual or complex problems. Work is reviewed for technical accuracy during progress and upon completion.

Requirements
- High School / GED
- No experience is needed but, an eagerness to learn is required
- A valid driver's license
- Ability to work outdoors
- Must be available for occasional overnight travel as needed for out-of-town work. This could include a full 5-day work week or less.
- An ability to adhere to safety procedures and requirements.
- The ability to work with a team
- Must be able to lift and carry survey equipment over rough & steep terrains
- Ability to remain standing or walking during the workday
- Willingness to work occasional flexible hours and overtime
- Ability to obtain security clearances
- Ability to obtain safety certifications
- Must be a US Citizen or have a valid work visa.
- Must be able to pass drug screening and background checks
- Must have a good understanding of mathematics and be willing to learn mathematical computations
- Positive attitude and professionalism

- Operates Trimble Robotic Total Station
- Operate Trimble Data Collectors
- Operates GPS survey equipment
- Perform Differential Levels
- Operate Lidar Scanner
- Operate a magnetic detector and use hand tools.
- Carries surveying equipment, tools, and other supplies to and from the survey vehicle and survey site.
- Inspects and maintains surveying instruments to keep them in good condition and working order.
- Perform inventory of supplies in work vehicle.
- Keep detailed field notes and sketches.
- Clears line of sight through vegetation using machetes, hand saws, and other cutting tools.
- Locate and document property corners and survey control points.
- Assists with the setup of work zone signs and other work zone controls.
- Operates a survey vehicle
- Records survey data in field book and data collector, checks survey notes for accuracy.
- Prepares and maintains necessary records and reports.
- Aids and performs duties as assigned during storm events or emergencies.
- Direct travel from home to jobsite with occasional office check-ins
