TITLE: Cafeteria Porter

QUALIFICATIONS: Completion of the 8th grade, with functional skills in reading, writing, and mathematics.

JOB SUMMARY: Performs a variety of routine tasks essential to the operation of serving meals in a school cafeteria.

REPORTS TO: Food Service Director, Food Service Director Assistant and other Central Office Administrators

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary, benefits and work year to be determined by the Cafeteria Workers Contract.

PENSION SYSTEM: IMRF

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Load food and supplies onto delivery truck
  2. Deliver inner district mail
  3. Organize food and supplies on carts
  4. Utilize First In, First Out method
  5. Assist cafeteria staff with heavy food items during lunch hours
  6. Cleaning spills as they occur in a timely manner
  7. Return stock back to designated areas
  8. Shut and secure all refrigerators, freezers, store room doors
  9. Assist truck porter with unfinished work
  10. Deliver food for the current day's menu. Pick-up previous days pots, pans, and food items that come back.
  11. Stage carts for next day's deliveries.
  12. Keep garbage picked up and empty trash in between lunch periods.
  13. Put all deliveries away when they have been checked in and rotate stock to use up older items first.
  14. Take milk to lines five minutes before lunch period starts.
  15. Sweep and mop storerooms, lines and kitchen daily.
  16. Keep storerooms and freezers organized.
  17. Bring out all items for the daily preparation of the menu.
  18. Put away all food items after the lunch period(s) end.
  19. Empty garbage cans and wash daily.
  20. Pick up money pouches from each school at the end of the lunch period(s).
  21. Help kitchen workers when asked.
  22. Keep self and uniform neat and clean.
  23. Perform all work necessary to the operation as directed by the Food Service Director, Food Service Director Assistant, or Head Cook.
  24. Able to lift 50+ pounds
