The Dangerous Goods (DG) team is looking for a motivated Risk Manager with strong regulatory knowledge, specifically on classification, and a hands-on passion to dive-deep into processes to support Amazon’s growth in a safe environment for customers, partners, and associates. This Risk Manager will be required to understand DG classification from a regulatory perspective and develop or improve our internal systems and controls to ensure safe and compliant transportation of DG across a global supply chain. Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, consultants and regulators, this role will be responsible for driving safety and compliance across customer deliveries and reverse logistics, enabling new selection, and expanding business and transportation models. This Risk Manager will need to develop accurate and relevant metric-driven analysis to foster continuous improvement and step-function innovation that will enhance our internal and external customer experience. Candidate must be seated in one of the corporate offices in Nashville, TN, Seattle, WA or Arlington, VA Must have the ability to travel at least 25% of the time Key job responsibilities Drive continuous improvement projects across global teams, ensuring Amazon is a leader for DG classification accuracy Manage a portfolio of projects aimed and building a best-in-class Dangerous Goods classification system Drive process development and deployment for accurate classification processes that are utilized to ensure compliant transportation of Dangerous Goods through the Amazon network both domestically and internationally Convert large and complex projects into manageable pieces to deliver iterative improvements while focusing on longer-term, large-scale deliverables Build collaborative relationships with leaders across regions, departments and business units Collaborate with other compliance functions to ensure consistency for different classification systems and help drive efficiency across teams Refine existing program processes in order to more efficiently track and prioritize issues to enable the team to scale their work Provide input to technology teams to improve listing processes, attribute collection, and corresponding controls to ensure compliant and safe shipment of Dangerous Goods Anticipate project bottlenecks, manage escalations, make tradeoffs, and balance business needs versus operational or technical constraints Anticipate operational and regulatory challenges and build system requirements that are flexible and robust to accommodate our future needs A day in the life Working across classification operations, fulfillment operations, technology, environmental, storage, legal, public policy, and other relevant internal teams at a global scale, this Risk Manager will ensure the safety of our associates and transportation partners by delivering innovative solutions for improving classification accuracy to ensure the safe and compliant transportation of DG, redefining industry best practices and standards, and safely enabling an ever-changing borderless business model. Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent 6+ years of compliance, audit or risk management experience Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications at an advanced level 5+ years of experience with Dangerous Goods Classification Preferred Qualifications Master's degree or equivalent Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification Experience leveraging technology and implementing lean principles / Six Sigma methodologies to drive process improvements or equivalent In-depth knowledge of Dangerous Goods classification with 10+ years experience Amazon is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace. Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $109,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
