WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
The Data Analyst role reports directly to the Manager, Service Analysis, and collaborate closely with the scheduling and service planning teams within the Planning department. This position is responsible for various levels of technical data management, collection, compilation, and cleansing, supporting strategic planning functions through the synthesis and analysis of data from multiple sources. The role involves performing analytical service planning, developing data-driven solutions, and contributing to cross-departmental projects. Analysts will develop and maintain scripts, queries, macros, and critical spreadsheets to facilitate data analysis and support planning objectives. The Data Analysts must be inquisitive, proactive self-starters who engage with various departments to identify issues and propose solutions, contributing to the agency's data-centric strategic goals.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to unpleasant and/or hazardous working conditions. This position works with multiple project timelines and is responsible for managing employees performing work of a complex nature.
Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently throughout an eight-hour period, reach vertically for overhead use as well as horizontally. Must be able to use a telephone or headset equipment.
Incumbent must be able to lift and move material weighing up to 20 lbs., perform work at a computer terminal for 6-8 hours a day, and function in an environment with constant interruptions.

Mobility Status:
As a Mobile position, the incumbent is expected to work in the office as needed. There will be access to touchdown/collaboration spaces when on site. Must be in-office for socialization, strategic collaboration, supervision, oversite, and accountability as needed.
This position is based in Austin, Texas. Successful out-of-state candidates must relocate to the state of Texas prior to start date and may have the opportunity to work remotely anywhere in Texas after a specified period.

Responsibilities
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

- Perform database management functions including the maintenance of databases for ridership data, service data, and field collection data.
- Perform statistical and trend analyses. Isolates, determines, and reports operational and performance problems and concerns based upon these analyses; recommends changes as appropriate.
- Create, automate and generate management reports from various agency-wide databases including the data warehouse.
- Evaluate departmental data and generate reports, graphs, forecasts, and trend analysis to assist in planning endeavors.
- Provide critical information to support regular evaluation of Capital Metro services, including data collection, data retrieval, data analysis, and preparation of reports.
- Respond to standard and ad-hoc requests for relevant planning or service data as needed for internal and external customers.
- Monitor data feeds, perform data extraction, and run scripts, as needed.
- Assist in various project management functions.
- Support Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority's Safety Management Systems (SMS) process by following safety and security policies, considering safety in every action and reporting safety and security concerns.
- Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.
Qualifications
WHAT YOU BRING
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Statistics, Data Science or a similar field.
- 3-5 years of experience in business analysis or data analysis.
- Experience using advanced Excel features and techniques including pivot tables, linked spreadsheets, lookup formulas, task automation, and graphing.
- Experience in SQL programming.
- Experience troubleshooting and resolving data issues.
- Strong Relational Database knowledge (Oracle, MS SQL Server, My SQL, or Snowflake).
- Experience with data manipulation/statistical software packages such as R, SAS, or Python.
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Excel and Power BI or Tableau.
- Experience working with data warehouse software, Business Intelligence (BI), ETL processes, and SQL.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- SQL Programming skills.
- Ability to utilize database software from a basic to advanced level, including creation and automation of tasks through scripting of macros and modules.
- Knowledge of statistical measures and procedures including modeling and trend analyses.
- Skill in analyzing complex data and identifying discrepancies.
- Skill in calculating and researching data.
- Skill in presenting data analysis results to a variety of audiences.
- Knowledge of the fundamentals of data warehouse, and experience supporting and developing data warehouse.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including skill in interviewing a variety of individuals for information gathering purposes.
- Ability to identify problems, propose solutions, and to coordinate diverse job requirements/projects on very tight schedules.
- Ability to interact efficiently and effectively with other team members or departments.
- Knowledge of and dedication to customer service and & working team concepts.
