Position Summary:

The hands-on Accounting Manager oversees the day-to-day activities of the accounting department, including tracking and auditing financial information, analyzing financial records and transactions and managing the accounting team members.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Manages the accounting staff who are responsible for financial reporting, billing, collections, payroll, and budget preparation.
  • Recruits and hires accounting and financial staff and conducts performance evaluations.
  • Coordinates training programs for new staff and identifies training needs for current staff.

Duties/Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
  • Supervise accounting staff in maintenance of general ledger, accounts payable,

payroll, cash receipts, pledges receivable and contributions, accounts receivable,

fixed asset and purchase orders

  • Establishes internal controls and guidelines for accounting transactions and budget preparation.
  • Oversees preparation of business activity reports, financial forecasts, and annual budgets.
  • Produces monthly financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or financial reporting standards.
  • Audits accounts and prepares reconciliation schedules to ensure accuracy; coordinates with outside auditors and provides needed information for the annual external audit.
  • Presents recommendations to management on short- and long-term financial objectives and policies.
  • Manages cash flow including preparation of forecasted cash positions
  • Reconciles bank and investment accounts.
  • Prepares grant compliance reports
  • Develop and implement operational best-practices and maintain procedures,

policies, and internal controls

  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Excellent management and supervisory skills.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and/or equivalent work experience and relevant certifications strongly preferred
  • Five years or more of related experience; non-profit accounting experience preferred.
  • Proficient in accounting software, preferably QuickBooks, Sage Intacct and Bill.com.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.


Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
  • Must have reliable transportation
