The hands-on Accounting Manager oversees the day-to-day activities of the accounting department, including tracking and auditing financial information, analyzing financial records and transactions and managing the accounting team members.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Manages the accounting staff who are responsible for financial reporting, billing, collections, payroll, and budget preparation.
- Recruits and hires accounting and financial staff and conducts performance evaluations.
- Coordinates training programs for new staff and identifies training needs for current staff.
- Supervise accounting staff in maintenance of general ledger, accounts payable,
payroll, cash receipts, pledges receivable and contributions, accounts receivable,
fixed asset and purchase orders
- Establishes internal controls and guidelines for accounting transactions and budget preparation.
- Oversees preparation of business activity reports, financial forecasts, and annual budgets.
- Produces monthly financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or financial reporting standards.
- Audits accounts and prepares reconciliation schedules to ensure accuracy; coordinates with outside auditors and provides needed information for the annual external audit.
- Presents recommendations to management on short- and long-term financial objectives and policies.
- Manages cash flow including preparation of forecasted cash positions
- Reconciles bank and investment accounts.
- Prepares grant compliance reports
- Develop and implement operational best-practices and maintain procedures,
policies, and internal controls
- Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
- Excellent management and supervisory skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting and/or equivalent work experience and relevant certifications strongly preferred
- Five years or more of related experience; non-profit accounting experience preferred.
- Proficient in accounting software, preferably QuickBooks, Sage Intacct and Bill.com.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
- Must have reliable transportation
