TITLE: Custodian
DEPARTMENT: Parks, Recreation & Community Services
REPORTS TO: Parks & Facility Maintenance Supervisor
This is a part time temporary position, and may be required to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Schedule of work hours may vary based on assigned duties.
NATURE OF WORK:
This position is responsible for routine custodial duties as well day-to-day maintenance operations of the Airway Heights Recreation Center. This position is to ensure a clean and safe facility for all members and guests.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Perform routine custodial duties such as: emptying trash receptacles, waste removal, vacuuming, dusting, moping, cleaning windows, and daily sanitation of restrooms, shower facilities, and all equipment and furniture
- Setting up rooms for events and meetings
- Responsible for removal of debris, garbage throughout parking areas, and sidewalks around exterior of the facility
- Notifies supervisor of required repairs and maintenance needs to buildings
- Monitors stock of supplies and materials, and notifies supervisor of order needs
- Other duties as assigned
- Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in custodial and maintenance services
- Knowledge of chemical uses, precautions, and disposal
- Understanding uses, operation, and maintenance of wide variety equipment
- Safe working practices
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Operate power and non-powered equipment and machinery required to effectively complete assigned work
- A basic knowledge of custodial and facility maintenance duties
- Must possess a valid driver's license with one-year minimum driving experience
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- CPR/AED & First Aid Certification
- Successfully complete a criminal history background check
Incumbents in this position are required to occasionally work in the field and may be exposed to inclement weather conditions and hazardous chemicals and equipment. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Incumbents may be required to work from ladders or on elevated platforms. While performing the duties of this job the employee primarily works inside but may be required to work outside in weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee may be required to work in temperatures that may exceed 90 degrees or may be below 30 degrees on occasions
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit and talk, or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to handle, or operate tools, and to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
