Position Summary:
Sovah Danville is seeking a PRN Phlebotomy Technician to collect and process human samples, such as blood and urine specimens, for testing in the laboratory, according to specimen collection and processing protocols.
- Labels, processes, and delivers specimens for testing.
- Collects and processes human samples according to specimen collection and processing protocols.
- Maintains equipment and appropriate inventory of medical supplies.
- Stocks/organizes supplies and phlebotomy baskets and collection stations for specimen procurement.
- Obtains urine specimens, and labels, and prepares for lab analysis.
- Collects drug screens according to the chain of custody guidelines and procedures set in the Drug Screen Collection Manuals.
- Centrifuges and stores blood samples for subsequent testing.
- Allocates the appropriate amount of specimen to the appropriate tubes for the different tests and panels.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Certificate of completion from a certified phlebotomy training program preferred.
- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
- Ability to perform routine venipuncture and skin puncture.
Requires flexibility in scheduling and ability to work all shift patterns including weekends and holidays to ensure appropriateness and continuity of care for the patients of Sovah Health Danville.
- Heartsaver CPR American Heart Association required.
- PBT (ASCP or ASPT) or equivalent obtained within two years of employment preferred
- Minimum of one (1) year of phlebotomy experience preferred.
