The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the production facility. This role ensures that production targets are met, quality standards are maintained, and safety protocols are adhered to. The Production Manager will lead a team of production staff, manage resources, and collaborate with other departments to achieve operational goals while maintaining efficiency, cost control, and high product quality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Production Planning and Scheduling:
- Develop and manage the production schedule to ensure that manufacturing targets are met on time and within budget.
- Monitor and adjust production schedules based on orders, material availability, and production capacity.
- Coordinate with procurement and supply chain teams to ensure availability of materials and equipment.
- Team Leadership and Supervision:
- Lead, train, and supervise a team of production workers, machine operators, and support staff.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide coaching or corrective action when needed.
- Foster a positive work environment by promoting teamwork, open communication, and employee engagement.
- Quality Control and Continuous Improvement:
- Ensure that all products are manufactured to the highest quality standards and comply with company specifications.
- Implement and monitor quality control processes, including inspections, testing, and documentation.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality, reduce waste, and increase operational efficiency.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Enforce adherence to safety regulations and company policies to maintain a safe working environment.
- Conduct safety audits and training sessions to minimize workplace accidents.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and regulatory standards (e.g., OSHA, EPA).
- Resource and Budget Management:
- Oversee the management of production materials, tools, equipment, and staffing levels to ensure smooth operations.
- Monitor production costs and implement cost-saving measures without compromising product quality.
- Develop and manage departmental budgets, including labor, materials, and overhead costs.
- Reporting and Data Analysis:
- Prepare and present daily, weekly, and monthly production reports, tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) such as output, downtime, waste, and quality.
- Analyze production data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement.
- Provide actionable insights to senior management based on production performance.
- Collaboration with Other Departments:
- Work closely with the engineering, maintenance, and quality control departments to resolve technical issues and improve production processes.
- Collaborate with the logistics and supply chain teams to ensure timely delivery of materials and products.
- Communicate with sales and customer service teams to align production schedules with customer demand and delivery timelines.
- Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing, Business Management, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a production management role, with at least 3 years in a supervisory capacity in a manufacturing environment.
- Proven track record in managing large teams and production processes in a high-volume, fast-paced setting.
- Skills:
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and time management abilities.
- In-depth knowledge of production processes, quality control, and safety standards.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, schematics, and production reports.
- Proficient in using production management software, ERP systems, and MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Certifications (preferred):
- Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other relevant certifications.
- OSHA certification or other safety-related credentials.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, and machinery.
- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the production floor for extended periods.
- Occasional lifting of materials or equipment up to [insert weight, e.g., 50 lbs].
