Job Summary: The Data Analyst & Innovation Specialist at ECS is a pivotal role that drives the development of data analysis tools and processes to foster deep data learning and innovation. This position is responsible for managing data reporting and analysis for funder reporting and internal data learning, aimed at enhancing program improvements and impact. Additionally, this role oversees the development and management of Power BI reporting within the Learning and Evaluation (L&E) department. The Specialist also leads research and analysis on emerging trends in ECS’s mission areas and ensures ECS’s active participation in evaluation and research networks.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Grant Reporting Management: Oversee the grant reporting calendar and handle data requests from funders and the Advancement team.
- Tool Development: Lead the creation of new internal tools to enhance staff skills in deep data learning, including data analysis and the development of research questions to assess and innovate ECS’s mission strategies.
- Data Presentation and Visualization : Present data analysis results in a clear, insightful, and actionable manner for various applications, collaborating with the Data Impact Specialist as needed.
- Power BI Management: Manage access and user permissions for Power BI reporting, ensuring efficient and secure data handling.
- Report Ownership: Take charge of the majority of internal and program-focused Power BI reports, including dashboards for specific programs and related output metric reports.
- Networking and Representation: Act as the public face of the L&E department in evaluation and research networks, showcasing ECS’s data-driven approach to learning and innovation.
- Staff Training: Conduct training sessions to improve data literacy among staff, helping them understand their role in data and perform deep dives into program-specific data points.
- Program Support: Facilitate regular check-ins with program directors to enhance their understanding and use of data reports.
- Consultation and Mentoring: Provide consultation, mentoring, and training to program leadership and staff on developing evaluation questions and adopting a data-driven decision-making approach.
Education and Experience
- Advanced degree or equivalent significant work experience (at least 4 years) in internal program evaluation, information management, database administration, and data analysis and reporting required. Experience working in social work, social services, and nonprofit sectors is highly desired.
- Advanced proficiency in analytical and statistical tools and softwares, such as PowerBI and Excel. Demonstrated competence in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience working with case management softwares (e.g. CaseWorthy, ETO, etc.) preferred.
- Experience in analytical and statistical tools and methods (e.g., Caseworthy, ETO, Excel). Demonstrated competence in Microsoft Office Suite. Advanced proficiency in PowerBI.
- Experience in outcomes management, logic model, and evaluation plan development.
- Ability to communicate with and train non-evaluation staff in learning and evaluation tools and data analysis for decision-making and quality improvement; experience teaching or training adults is a plus.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts around program outcomes and impact in a way that is accessible to all audiences.
- Flexibility and ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment and prioritize work items.
- Excellent computer skills (including but not limited to Microsoft Office suite, Adobe products, CRM/database, and project management software).
