Job Summary
Are you passionate about sports and making a difference in youth development? The YMCA is seeking a motivated Sports Instructor to lead fun and engaging developmental skills clinics, recreational leagues, and beginner-level sports programs for children and adults. This role will help participants of all ages build athletic skills, teamwork, and confidence while promoting a love for physical fitness and good sportsmanship.

Key Responsibilities:
Lead Sports Instruction: Plan and facilitate engaging sports programs, focusing on fundamentals and skill-building for participants of all ages.
Adapt Lessons for All Levels: Modify activities to ensure both beginners and experienced participants succeed and enjoy the experience.
Foster Sportsmanship: Teach the values of teamwork, fair play, and respect to promote healthy competition and positive interactions.
Ensure Safety: Supervise participants during activities, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
Celebrate Growth: Track and celebrate individual and group achievements, encouraging a growth mindset among participants.
Maintain Equipment & Facilities: Prepare and clean sports equipment and facilities before and after activities.
Promote Programs: Encourage participation in YMCA sports programs, fostering program growth and community engagement.
Communicate Effectively: Keep participants and parents informed about schedules, progress, and upcoming events.
Uphold YMCA Values: Demonstrate and promote the YMCA’s core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.
Participate in Training: Attend staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications
- High school diploma required (college coursework in physical education preferred)
- Minimum age: 18
- Previous experience coaching or working with youth is a plus
- Strong knowledge of sports and recreational activities
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (can be obtained within 30 days of hire)
- Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Excellent communication skills
- Passionate about sports and youth development
Work Environment:
This role involves physical activity, including climbing, kneeling, standing for extended periods, and lifting up to 25 pounds. Exposure to equipment and light cleaning agents is required.
