Aid in the operation of the counties Collection system and satellite Waste Water plants as needed Includes the collection of wastewater samples per state regulations, recording data and preparing regulatory reports, and other similar duties. With parameters and goals set forth by management and the OEPA.

Fayette County Water is a fast-growing water system currently in the process of building a brand new 4.0 MGD surface water treatment plant and a 1 MGD WWTP for an ever-expanding system. We are 100 % team-oriented organization, with a large emphasis on setting and achieving goals in order to provide a safe, quality product to our customers. We currently looking to fill several operator positions by the end of 2024. With an additional 2 satellite distribution systems and 2 separate Wastewater treatment plants located within Fayette County along with a 2MGD raw water plant
Pay Scale:

Job Description
Independently operate, maintain, repair and inspect all equipment and process control needs throughout the WWTP. Aid in the operation of the counties Collection system and satellite Waste Water plants as needed Includes the collection of wastewater samples per state regulations, recording data and preparing regulatory reports, and other similar duties. With parameters and goals set forth by management and the OEPA.
Characteristic Work
Works under the direction of the Plant Manager and Assistant Manager of operations
- Operates and maintains WWTP including servicing of pumps, motors, valves, generators, and pipeline equipment.
- Becomes familiar with safety guidelines and utilizes them in the workplace.
- Maintain activity log and associates with spare part inventory use (i.e., ordering, usage, receipt from supplier).
- Exercises valves and performs maintenance
- Must become familiar with the rules, regulations, and policies of Fayette County Water and Sewer
- Collect samples and deliver to the appropriate Laboratory for testing.
- Check chemical levels and refill or replace containers.
- Check water levels and pump operations.
- Maintain plant records.
- Will be responsible for keeping all buildings and work areas clean.
- Assist and performs maintenance on machinery and equipment.
- Prepare daily reports on plant operations and controls, ability to keep a detailed log book
- Ability to move 40-pound bags and 55-gallon barrels of chemical.
- Employee will be subject to emergency callouts as needed.
- Must be available to work on any shift either day or night, utilities is a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week operation.
- Daily chemical analysis, handling of hazardous chemicals.
- Complete all tasks in accordance standard operating procedures or at the direction of the supervisor.
- Cross-trains and assists other departments when needed.
- Performs On-call duties related to the WWTP and Collections system
- Other duties as assigned.
- Skills and competencies
- Basic to advanced knowledge of hand tools, power tools, water hydraulics, chemistry, mathematics, plumbing, pumps, valves, motors, filters, and equipment maintenance.
- Ability to follow and understand safety procedures.
- The ability to identify, troubleshoot, and repair problems with a high degree of competency is required, knowledge of basic I.T. and SCADA systems
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work without direct supervision.
- Ability to attend and understand technical courses.
Ability to detect problems in equipment operations
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Must possess a high school diploma, GED equivalent.
- Additional trade specific courses preferred.
- Possession of a Class I WW treatment Operators Certificate as issued by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency or must obtain within two years of employment.
- Possession of a valid State of Ohio driver's license and proof of insurance
- Be able to consistently lift 50 lbs.
- Able to work in inclement weather
- Ability to work alone and make educated decisions based off of data collected to ensure consistent operation of the plant.
Preferred Qualifications
- Class II WW treatment license issued by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency
- Knowledge of the equipment, operations, practices, and safety precautions relevant to the treatment and pumping of potable water.
- Knowledge of the servicing and maintenance of wastewater treatment plant equipment.
