MANUFACTURING ENGINEER - SENSORS
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform hands-on engineering and liaison role between the hardware design team and the production organization as SpaceX works to drive new designs into the manufacturing phase
- Provide DFX feedback to engineering on printed circuit board, mechanical, harness/fiber, optics and integration design
- Design a production manufacturing environment including shop floor/cleanroom requirements, floor layout, new process development, equipment and tooling required to build a wide array of sensor assemblies
- Prepare engineering documentation necessary for the transition from development to production including schematic diagrams, bills of materials, suitable alternate parts lists, mechanical drawings, assembly procedures, and test procedures
- Contribute to design reviews acting as an expert in design for testability, design for manufacturability, yield improvements, supplier capabilities assessments, quality control, etc
- Perform troubleshooting and root cause analysis on PCBA’s, Optoelectronics and Integrated Assemblies
- Develop robust supply chain and create initial forecasting for new development projects
- Update designs and processes when necessary in response to manufacturing issues, parts obsolescence, and system requirement changes
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, aerospace, electrical or equivalent engineering field
- 2 years of professional experience in the design or production of electronical hardware systems
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Demonstrated professional experience providing engineering and manufacturing support for the production of highly complex electrical, optical and/or mechanical products
- Ability to design, validate and control production processes for assembly and calibration of sensor systems
- Experience transitioning products from design to manufacturing as part of a cross-functional team
- Experience in fast-paced iterative design environments within the consumer electronics, medical devices, commercial aviation or automotive industries
- Design for Manufacturability and Design for Test experience
- Familiarity with ERP systems, Altium Designer and NX/Unigraphics
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
- Ability to present complex information and influence peers
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Position may require long hours and weekend work
- Must be willing to travel up to 10% of the time
