THIS IS A 3RD SHIFT POSITION - 11 PM-7 AM
Reports to: Protection Services Executive Team Lead
Summary: Provides for the efficient and professional protection and safety of visitors, volunteers, staff, assets, and owned/loaned property under the Museum's management. As a member of the Protection Services Department, the Officer works closely with his/her colleagues, supervisors, and senior staff to fulfill the mission of the museum and provide exceptional visitor experiences while maintaining the highest standards of professional practices.
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Hourly
Salary: $17.00 per hour

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitors multiple systems and equipment, including but not limited to CCTV, Burglar Alarm, Fire Alarm, and Access Control.
- Responds promptly and properly to exceptions in Museum conditions, including but not limited to alarms, building/property damage, electrical interruptions, gas/water leaks, flooding, and temperature/humidity controls.
- Performs receptionist duties for non-public entrance and answers switchboard calls as requested.
- Maintains visitor registers and assists staff, visitors, volunteers, and delivery personnel using non-public entrances and loading docks. Responsible for documentation and reporting on after-hour entry and egress.
- Maintains key and card control and inventory.
- Renders courteous, friendly, efficient, and professional assistance in person, over the telephone, and through radio and public address systems while carrying out security and safety policies and procedures.
- Patrols buildings, and grounds to prevent, report, and manage security and safety issues and concerns including unauthorized, unsafe, unsecure, and suspicious activities/conditions. Able to follow emergency procedures including but not limited to increasing patrols and moving posts, notifying staff members, emergency responders, University of Louisville authorities, and utilities; the administration of first aid and CPR; and leading evacuations, traffic management, and crowd control.
- Prepares reports of shift activities, incidents, and accidents including but not limited to regular and irregular and unauthorized activities, vandalism, damage, fires, and thefts.
- Executes assignments and projects, including but not limited to: inspections of equipment and facilities; training of staff; escorts of people, collections, valuables, and negotiables; routinely works as gate and security officer; and assists with other work, projects, and programs, and scheduling as requested.
- Monitors and leads evacuations, if necessary for weather, fire alarms, or other threats.
- Responsible for reporting incidents and problems affecting the building to the Building Services Manager and the Manager of the affected area.
- Receives and evaluates requests for security services and dispatches personnel as appropriate.
- Contacts 911 for Police, Fire, EMS, or other appropriate emergency personnel as needed in response to alarm events and threats to the safety and security of museum guests, employees, contractors, and assets.
- Maintains awareness of Museum schedule and events.
- Routinely works as Security Officer or Gate Officer.
- Requisitions equipment and supply needs through the Security Supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Professional presence, effective verbal communication skills, and the ability to remain calm when working in difficult situations.
- Experience functioning independently, prioritizing, and being flexible for interruptions and changing priorities.
- 1+ year of Security experience preferred
Essential Skills:
- Verbal and written communication skills to fulfill responsibilities.
- Ability to be trained and function in all protection services assignments.
- Able to be trained to use Microsoft Office and department-specific software.
- Able to work effectively with others, including but not limited to: visitors, staff, volunteers, donors, and representatives of partner organizations.

Work Environment
- To include, but not limited to offices, museum space (gallery and non-gallery)
- Exterior grounds of the facility, parking garage, and other indoor/outdoor spaces
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to complete the following tasks with/without reasonable accommodations so the requirements of this position can be fully met:
- Extensive use of telephone, radio, and computer throughout the workday.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position during shift.
- Ability to climb stairs throughout the shift
- Ability to access merchandise, supplies, etc. intermittently throughout the workday.
- Communicates using the English language.
- Sees and hears or uses prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
- Move equipment, supplies, etc., of twenty-five (25) pounds throughout the workday.
