Software Engineer Intern
Coinbase, San Francisco, CA, United States
Ready to be pushed beyond what you think you’re capable of?
At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. It’s a massive, ambitious opportunity that demands the best of us, every day, as we build the emerging onchain platform — and with it, the future global financial system.
To achieve our mission, we’re seeking a very specific candidate. We want someone who is passionate about our mission and who believes in the power of crypto and blockchain technology to update the financial system. We want someone who is eager to leave their mark on the world, who relishes the pressure and privilege of working with high caliber colleagues, and who actively seeks feedback to keep leveling up. We want someone who will run towards, not away from, solving the company’s hardest problems.
This is a 12-week internship during summer 2025.
Coinbase is seeking software engineer interns to join our team to build out the next generation of crypto-forward products and features. You will solve unique, large scale, highly complex technical problems, bridging the constraints posed by web-scale applications and blockchain technology. You will help build the next generation of systems to make cryptocurrency accessible to everyone across the globe, operating real-time applications with high frequency, low latency updates, and managing the most secure, dockerized infrastructure running in the cloud.
As a SWE intern you will be hired into one of our five Product Groups (Base, Developer, Consumer, Institutional, and Platform) or into our Security org based on your interests and skill-set. Please review the team descriptions below and select your top choice in your application.
- The Base Product Group engineers enables seamless Coinbase product integrations, easy fiat onramps, and powerful acquisition tools for developers to serve the 108m verified users and to access the $100B+ assets in the Coinbase ecosystem.
- The Consumer Product Group engineers strive to make the Coinbase retail app the easiest-to-use and fastest experience for accessing the crypto.
- The Developer Product Group engineers aim to create solutions so builders can build in crypto.
- The Institutional Product Group enables the foundations of Coinbase's institutional business supporting thousands of large financial institutions.
- The Platform Product Group’s mission is to build a trusted, scalable, and compliant platform to maximize velocity, efficiency and quality.
- The Security Team is core to the Coinbase mission and has been a key competitive differentiator for us as we scale.
What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):

- Have programming experience (in a class, for fun, at a job) -- most of our systems are written in Golang, JavaScript, and Ruby but experience with any is not a strict requirement.
- Enjoy thinking about how people interact with products and building experiences that users love.
- Self-motivated and committed to personal growth.
- Approach problems with positive energy.
Nice to haves:
- Currently pursuing a degree or certificate in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics or a related discipline.
