The AI Frameworks team at Microsoft develops the AI software used to train and deploy the world’s most advanced AI models. We build state-of-the-art AI compilers and design new AI programming abstractions for Microsoft’s supercomputers and next-generation AI hardware. Our inter-disciplinary team operates at the intersection of compiler engineering, programming language design, algorithmic innovation, AI, and high-performance computing. We are seeking talented and collaborative Senior Software Engineer- AI Compilers to join our AI Compiler effort. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to join a dynamic team, working on cutting-edge technology that has a direct impact on every Microsoft business.

This is a technical role: it requires hands-on software design and development skills. We’re looking for someone who has a demonstrated history of solving hard technical problems and is motivated to tackle the hardest problems in building a full end-to-end AI stack.

Responsibilities

  1. Design and develop AI software in C/C++, Python, and other languages.
  2. Implement innovative new compiler features and optimization passes.
  3. Develop code generation techniques for novel hardware platforms.
  4. Optimize AI workloads.
  5. Design new programming abstractions for AI.
  6. Collaborate broadly across multiple disciplines from hardware architects to ML developers.
  7. Identify requirements, scope solutions, estimate work, and schedule deliverables.
  8. Help establish and drive the adoption of outstanding coding standards and patterns and help enhance our inclusive engineering culture.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
  2. OR equivalent experience.
  3. 2+ years’ experience with C++.
  4. 2+ years’ experience building compilers, using compiler frameworks like LLVM/MLIR, or optimizing AI/numerical workloads.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  1. Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
  2. OR equivalent experience.
  3. 2+ years’ experience with Python.
  4. M.S. or Ph.D. in computer engineering or related fields, or equivalent industry experience.
  5. Experience using or developing Machine Learning training or inference software.
  6. Deep curiosity and interest about exploring new technologies.
  7. Effective cross-team collaboration skills and communication skills.
