The Associate Dean for Financial Affairs serves as the senior School of Medicine (SOM) strategic and operational financial officer and is considered to be one of the key leaders on the UCSF campus in financial strategy, systems, and tools.
The Associate Dean is a key leader in strategic planning, policy development, and executive problem solving regarding the school's and campus' financial matters. The individual provides counsel to SOM, UCSF Health, and campus leaders on short- and long-term financial management strategies to implement SOM's strategic plans to advance the pursuit and achievement of excellence and innovation in education, research, and patient care and in response to financial and organizational change.
As a campus leader, it is expected that the Associate Dean will establish SOM-wide financial strategies, policies, processes, and tools, taking into account how SOM's approach can be expanded to advance the financial position and infrastructure of other schools, campus units, and UCSF Health Faculty Practice. As the head of the Financial Affairs Unit (FAU), the Associate Dean is expected to cultivate FAU directors and staff in the mindset that SOM initiatives should be developed within a framework of potential benefit to the entire UCSF organization.
The Associate Dean is responsible for directing all financial and compliance management in SOM, including financial operations and reporting, financial planning and analysis, business intelligence, and resource stewardship (audit and compliance). The Associate Dean represents SOM with UCSF, UCSF Health, and affiliated institutions on financial matters; oversees and manages the SOM annual consolidated budget of $3.8B; serves in the critical role of the SOM finance compliance officer; and is the principal back-up for the SOM Vice Dean for Administration & Finance and, in the Vice Dean's absence, acts in place of the Vice Dean with delegated authority and responsibility for the Vice Dean's roles.
Under the Associate Dean's direction, the Financial Affairs Unit (FAU) is responsible for developing and maintaining SOM-wide administrative infrastructure to facilitate effective and efficient financial operations, reporting, analysis, and decision support, including IT initiatives such as SOM business and finance data warehouse and web-based business intelligence tools and transactional systems. The FAU team is made up of 22 total FTEs: ten FTEs supporting financial operations, compliance, and reporting, nine FTEs supporting budget and resource planning, and three FTEs in data management and business intelligence.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $138,400 - $335,800 (Annual Rate).
