Departmental Overview

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research has overall managerial responsibility for Berkeley's research enterprise. It seeks to maintain a research environment that fosters creativity, collaboration, and community. In support of these goals, the Office administers over 50 research centers, institutes, programs, museums, and field stations.

Responsibilities

  1. Plans, organizes, and directs large-scale fundraising campaigns.
  2. Works closely with the Chief Development Officer to support strategic priorities of faculty and staff.
  3. Evaluates programs using financial feasibility studies and market research.
  4. Writes proposals for solicitation of individual, corporate, and foundation prospects.
  5. Qualifies, identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards major gift prospects and donors.
  6. Recruits, trains, and supports board members and other key volunteers.
  7. Develops and manages a dynamic portfolio of 80-100 major gift prospects.
  8. Makes at least 10-15 substantive contacts per month to meet predetermined fundraising goals.

Required Qualifications

  1. Advanced knowledge of all aspects of fundraising, donor relations, and public relations.
  2. Advanced knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, and institutional policies.
  3. Advanced written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  4. Advanced analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Education/Training: Bachelors degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Advanced degree preferred.
  2. Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credential is a plus.
