Job Overview

Provides fuel delivery service from Fleet Management storage locations or the Port of Operations to County bulk tanks, emergency generators and other locations based on customer needs.

Salary

Minimum: $17.36

Maximum: $28.64

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities related to fuel delivery operator/driver services, fuel site safety oversight, minor repairs to fuel site equipment, the monitoring of fuel inventory levels, creation and execution of delivery schedules based on inventory and historical usage, fuel reporting and reconciliations, and other fuel program functions in support of the fuels management section of Fleet Management. The candidate will also possess a High School diploma or GED certificate.

Additionally, the candidate will also possess two years of experience in the operation, operator level maintenance and repair of bobtail fuel trucks, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies. Possession of a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License (Class B) with air brake, tanker, hazardous materials endorsements, and no more than seven points within the past 24 months.

Duties and Responsibilities

Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform some or all of the activities described below.
  • Operates a fuel tanker delivering fuel daily to county sites.
  • Performs minor repairs/services to maintain fuel system equipment.
  • Trains back-up drivers for emergency situations.
  • Trains personnel to assist with daily inspections of fuel dispensers and required inspections of all Fleet operated fuel storage tanks.
  • Operates auxiliary equipment such as fuel dispensing equipment using a display screen, associated wiring and key controls.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Job Specifications
  • Knowledge of fuel tanker transport operation.
  • Knowledge of DOT rules and regulations regarding transport of hazardous materials.
  • Knowledge of laws, and regulations on the safe operation of fuel tanker transport, fuel containment and spill containment and reporting procedures.
  • Skill in the safe operation of fuel tanker transport.
  • Ability to properly identify and report fuel containment compliance issues.
  • Ability to service and make minor repairs and adjustments to fuel equipment.
  • Ability to use computer and Microsoft programs and perform data entry in database system.
  • Ability to perform a variety of physical tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Physical Requirements
  • Requires bending, climbing, stooping, kneeling or crouching at ground levels, standing for long periods of time, and eye and hand coordination.
  • Required to work outside in a subtropical climate under adverse weather, and high noise levels.
  • Must be able to lift and carry equipment and tools.
  • Required to lift up to approximately forty (40) pounds.

Work Category
  • Medium Work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Minimum Qualifications Required
  • Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; AND
  • One year of experience in operation, maintenance and operator repair of fuel tanker; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted above; AND
  • Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License (Class B) with hazardous materials, tanker, air brake endorsements, and not more than seven points assessed against license in past 24 months.

Emergency Management Responsibilities

In the event of an emergency or disaster, an employee may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by the employee's department, the County's Office of Emergency Management, or County Administration. Such assignments may be for before, during or after the emergency/disaster.
