Job purpose

Routes, wires, assembles, and installs electrical and electronic components, such as main junction and terminal boxes, main control switch panels, and instrument panels, according to specifications, using jig boards, hand tools, and equipment.

Reads work orders, blueprints, and specifications to determine established assembly methods.

Duties and responsibilities
  • Prepares work to be accomplished by studying assembly instructions, blueprint specifications, and parts lists, gathering parts, subassemblies, tools, and materials.
  • Positions parts and subassemblies by using templates or reading measurements.
  • Cuts wire to lengths specified in drawings, using wire cutters.
  • Cut plastic sleeves and slip sleeves over wire ends to insulate connections.
  • Crimps terminal eyelets and lugs to wire ends, using hand or machine crimping device.
  • Routes, combs, twists, wraps, ties, and attach wire to terminal points using hand tools.
  • Verifies specifications by measuring completed component.
  • Connects wiring to accessories, control panels, plugs, condensers, switches, solenoids and installs accessory assemblies in electrical or electronic units using hand tools.
  • Conducts functional and continuity tests of electrical assemblies, components, wire harness, and plugs, using ohmmeter, test lights, and other electrical testing instruments.
  • Resolves assembly problems by altering dimensions to meet specifications; notifying supervisor, leads to obtain additional resources.
  • Keeps equipment operational by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Maintains supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
  • Conserves resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Documents actions by completing production and quality forms.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
Qualifications
  • 3yrs to 5yrs of HVAC or electrical manufacturing experience
  • Good hand-eye coordination is the main skill all electrical assemblers must have; putting together the small, intricate parts needed to power devices of varying sizes require impeccable attention to detail.
  • Electrical assemblers must also be handy with various tools and be versatile.
  • The ability to fit into a team setting is another good attribute for electrical assemblers.
  • Must have a Quality Focus,
  • Good decision-making skills are important
  • Minimum training necessary (high school diploma, associate's degree preferred)
Work Experience Required:
  • Three plus years in related HVAC/Electrical Field Preferred
