Shipping and Receiving Job Descriptions
1. Receiving Duties:
- Inspect incoming shipments to verify their contents and compare them to purchase orders or other documents.
- Unload, unpack, and sort incoming materials, ensuring they are in good condition.
- Record and document received items and update inventory systems or databases.
- Check for accuracy and completeness of shipments, including quantities and quality of products.
- Identify and report any discrepancies, damages, or shortages to the appropriate parties.
- Organize received materials and place them in designated storage areas.
2. Shipping Duties:
- Review shipping orders or requests to determine the items to be shipped and their destinations.
- Pack, label, and prepare goods for shipping according to company standards and shipping requirements.
- Generate shipping documents, such as bills of lading or shipping labels, and ensure they are accurate and complete.
- Arrange transportation and schedule pickups with carriers or freight forwarders.
- Track and monitor the status of outgoing shipments and communicate any delays or issues to relevant parties.
- Ensure all necessary customs or regulatory documentation is completed for international shipments.
3. Inventory Management:
- Maintain accurate inventory records and conduct regular inventory counts or audits.
- Monitor stock levels and initiate reorder requests to avoid shortages or overstocking.
- Organize and optimize warehouse storage, ensuring efficient use of space and easy access to items.
- Coordinate with other departments, such as procurement or sales, to ensure accurate stock levels and timely deliveries.
- Identify and implement improvements in inventory control processes to minimize errors and improve efficiency.
4. Equipment and Safety:
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, or other material handling equipment safely and efficiently.
- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents, injuries, or damage to goods.
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment and report any malfunctions or issues for repairs.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including the warehouse or shipping and receiving areas.
5. Communication and Documentation:
- Collaborate with internal teams, such as purchasing, production, or customer service, to ensure smooth operations and timely deliveries.
- Communicate with suppliers, carriers, or customers regarding shipment details, tracking information, or any issues that arise.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including shipping logs, inventory databases, and other relevant documentation.
- Provide excellent customer service and resolve any shipping or receiving-related inquiries or concerns.
- Must be able to lift up to 50lbs
- Be able to bend, stoop, and stand up to 8 hours a day
- Be proficient in the English language, both written and spoken
- Able to work in a team setting
