Summary
The Field Mechanic (Heavy Equipment) is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing Heavy Civil Construction Equipment.
Essential Job Functions
Diagnoses problems and performs mechanical repair and maintenance of heavy civil construction equipment (including, but not limited to, bulldozers, scrapers, backhoes, front end loaders, yard trucks, forklifts, and company vehicles).
Inspects and documents condition of equipment for items needing repair or service.
Replaces or repairs defective parts using hand tools, power tools, cutting torches, and welding equipment.
Rebuilds or fabricates parts.
Lubricates moving parts and operates repaired equipment to verify conformance to specifications.
Performs tasks per preventative maintenance checklist.
Drives pick-up or service truck.
Safety conscious and responds to inquiries promptly; follows through to ensure the situation is taken care of correctly.
Other related duties as required or assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
A minimum of 5 years' experience in repair/maintenance/welding in heavy civil construction equipment required
High School diploma or its equivalent
Must be able to cut, weld and fabricate
Experience and knowledge of CAT ET diagnostic tool.
Must have the ability to climb ladders and operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner
Working knowledge and understanding of OSHA rules and regulations
Good communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment are required
Previous experience reading technical manuals and understanding of schematic diagrams preferred
Additional Requirements
This position is exposed to high temperatures; cool/cold temperatures; loud noises and fumes.
Work in the construction area poses significantly greater risk due to moving construction equipment and active construction zones with trip and fall hazards.
Requires valid state-specific driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record that meets Haydon's insurability requirements.
