Job Opportunity: Backend/Full-Stack Engineer

Client:

Agave (YC W22) Position:

Full-Time Location:

On-site, San Francisco, CA Compensation:

$110k - $185k + Equity (0.15% - 0.50%)

About Agave:

Agave is revolutionizing the $12T global construction industry by modernizing outdated, siloed software systems. We connect these systems through proprietary APIs and a modern UI, enabling construction software companies and teams to automate workflows, save time, and increase profitability. As a Y Combinator (YC W22) company, we are scaling rapidly and seeking top engineering talent to join us in our mission.

Primary Requirements:

2–4+ years of experience in backend or full-stack engineering. Familiarity with cloud infrastructure tools and platforms (e.g., AWS). Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from a top 25 US/Canada university. Commitment to work in-person five days a week in San Francisco.

Secondary Requirements:

Startup experience, preferably in seed to Series B stages. Strong internship or co-op experience for new graduates. Passion for solving complex technical challenges in a fast-paced startup environment.

Primary Responsibilities

1. System Unification:

Design and build scalable solutions to unify fragmented systems under a single standard. This includes developing standardized data objects, models, authentication, account-linking UX, and scalable features like filters and pagination. Conduct deep research on supported systems to implement generic, system-agnostic solutions for new features.

2. Legacy System Integration:

Connect with on-premises systems (SQL-based, DLL-based, API-based) built 20-40 years ago, enabling them to function as secure, fast, and reliable modern systems. Implement real-time communication and webhooks for legacy systems lacking native APIs, using tools like web-sockets.

3. Scalability and Optimization:

Handle millions of API requests daily, ensuring efficient data storage, retrieval, and caching to reduce latency. Build elegant backend solutions for large-scale data operations and iterate quickly based on customer feedback.

4. Operational Excellence:

Develop a robust API layer on top of legacy systems, ensuring reliability and adherence to SLAs. Innovate scalable testing frameworks to catch edge cases and bugs across hundreds of endpoints, enhancing the breadth and depth of our integrations.

5. Full-Stack Development:

Build front-end applications that utilize our APIs to improve user experience and API performance. Design and implement features that address customer needs while ensuring our APIs remain world-class.

6. Varied and Unique Challenges:

Address high-ambiguity problems by researching and understanding unique system nuances before building integrations. Approach each new integration as a combination of engineering and system archeology, delivering tailored solutions.
