Job Overview:

The Phlebotomist is responsible for serving patients by preparing specimens for laboratory testing and performing screening standards. This role involves drawing quality blood samples while fostering an atmosphere of trust and confidence among patients.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform blood draws and other specimen collections (e.g., urine, fecal) following established procedures.
• Greet and treat all customers courteously, ensuring a positive experience.
• Explain the venipuncture process clearly and calmly to reduce patient anxiety.
• Demonstrate proper techniques using straight and butterfly needles.
• Understand and accurately follow all physician orders.
• Match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.
• Ensure 100% accuracy by checking test requisitions or computer labels against scripts.
• Package specimens for transport and store samples according to required temperatures.
• Maintain the integrity of specimens by accurately labeling and following specific transport protocols.
• Demonstrate proficiency in collection methods and processing of specimens.
• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual departmental trainings.
• Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Minimum of 1 year of experience in a phlebotomy role.
• Strong communication skills and a patient-focused attitude.
• Knowledge of laboratory procedures and specimen handling protocols.
• Ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor under pressure.
