Key Responsibilities:
- Perform blood draws and other specimen collections (e.g., urine, fecal) following established procedures.
- Greet and treat all customers courteously, ensuring a positive experience.
- Explain the venipuncture process clearly and calmly to reduce patient anxiety.
- Demonstrate proper techniques using straight and butterfly needles.
- Understand and accurately follow all physician orders.
- Match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.
- Ensure 100% accuracy by checking test requisitions or computer labels against scripts.
- Package specimens for transport and store samples according to required temperatures.
- Maintain the integrity of specimens by accurately labeling and following specific transport protocols.
- Demonstrate proficiency in collection methods and processing of specimens.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Attend annual departmental trainings.
- Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a phlebotomy role.
- Strong communication skills and a patient-focused attitude.
- Knowledge of laboratory procedures and specimen handling protocols.
- Ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor under pressure.
