Job Title: Medical Laboratory Technician Job Specialty: Medical Laboratory Technician Job Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day shift, negotiable Guaranteed Hours: Information not provided Experience: Information not provided License: Eligible to test for Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification Certifications: ASCP certification or equivalent nationally recognized medical technology certification or categorical certification Must-Have: - Bachelor’s degree and successful completion of an accredited medical technology program or equivalent training, education, and experience - Housing available Job Description: - Perform routine and special laboratory tests to determine normal and abnormal components of body fluids by conducting chemical analysis. - Recognize test inconsistencies and take appropriate corrective action. - Assist laboratory co-workers in the resolution of problems and seek help from department leads or laboratory management when needed. - Call in critical test results to physicians or nurses immediately and maintain the critical and reportable results log according to protocol. - Prepare legible test reports when collecting, analyzing, and summarizing patient data. - Review reports for clerical accuracy and clinical indications. - Provide medical technology information by answering questions and requests. - Perform quality-control tests in designated areas and analyze quality-control data, taking corrective actions when results are outside acceptable limits. - Document actions taken and report unresolved situations to the department lead or laboratory management. - Ensure the operation of analyzers and other laboratory equipment. - Provide in-service training to other laboratory staff and students in designated areas. - Perform specimen collection and processing duties according to policies established in the clinical laboratory. - Attend regular department staff meetings and in-service training. - Observe laboratory and hospital policies, procedures, and safety practices. - Maintain laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock and monitoring expiration dates.
