The Department of Anesthesiology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is seeking an experienced physician-leader to serve as Division Chief of Obstetric Anesthesiology. The successful candidate will oversee all anesthesia services within the Division of Obstetric Anesthesiology, have a clear vision for advancing the subspecialty, collaborate with obstetricians and other colleagues, and uphold the University’s mission of excellence in clinical care, education, and research.
The Obstetric Anesthesiology division in the Department of Anesthesiology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is actively involved in the care of obstetric patients at Northwestern Medicine’s Prentice Women’s Hospital. The Labor & Delivery unit at Prentice Women’s Hospital is designated a Level IV Regional Perinatal Health Care Center with over 12,000 deliveries per year, taking care of a wide range of patients and medical conditions, from routine to high risk. Obstetric anesthesia care, from consultation to critical care, is available by board-certified anesthesiologists with fellowship training or extensive experience in obstetric anesthesiology 24 hours a day.
Prentice Women’s Hospital performs the largest number of deliveries in the state of Illinois, and the obstetric anesthesiology service is involved in the care of greater than 90 percent of all patients. In addition, the obstetric anesthesiologists collaborate with the Chicago Institute for Fetal Health and provide consultation and anesthesia expertise for complicated fetal surgeries. The obstetric anesthesiologists are very involved in clinical research, have published several papers in high-impact journals and are recognized experts in their field.
In 2019, the obstetric anesthesiology section was awarded one of the inaugural Centers of Excellence designations by the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology.
Qualifications:
MD, MD/PhD from an accredited institution with certification by the American Board of Anesthesiology Fellowship in obstetric anesthesiology, or equivalent experience Candidate should possess qualifications for appointment at the academic rank of Associate or full Professor Recognized as a leader in Obstetric Anesthesiology Ability to obtain an unrestricted medical license to practice in the State of Illinois Hold active Federal and State of Illinois DEA licenses Role:
Ensure the delivery of high-quality clinical services Oversee the education of faculty, fellows, residents, medical students, and certified registered nurse anesthetists Mentor faculty and trainees Facilitate clinical and/or translational research and lead innovative scholarship in obstetric anesthesiology High-level oversight of obstetric anesthesiology operations Collaborate with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Support departmental and division clinical performance improvement and quality processes Recruit new faculty to the division and support their career development Complete other responsibilities as delegated by the Chair Resources:
