VP of Merchandising

The Vice President (VP) of Merchandising will drive product strategy and guide brand growth.

This role is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive merchandising strategies that align with the brand values and drive business objectives. As the leader of the merchandising team, this individual ensures that products align with merchandising goals, revenue targets, and overall objectives.

This role guarantees that product lines are launched on schedule, profitably, and in compliance with line plans and production timelines.

This position reports directly to the Chief Planning and Logistics Officer and will have 5 direct reports at this time. This is a full time, hybrid role, based on our San Francisco Headquarters three days per week.

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and lead a product line strategy that reflects our commitment to transparency, sustainability, and quality across categories, including apparel, footwear, and accessories.
  2. Act as the primary conduit between design, sourcing, and production teams, ensuring alignment and consensus on short- and long-term merchandising strategies.
  3. Manage and ensure adherence to the product development calendar, overseeing all meetings, deliverables, and outcomes to bring products to market on time.
  4. Bring a deep understanding of customer behavior, lifestyle trends, and competitive analysis to shape product line. Integrate these insights to ensure each collection resonates with our target market.
  5. Partner with sourcing teams to meet cost, sustainability, and quality goals. Balance customer value with commitment to ethical sourcing and environmental responsibility.
  6. Provide product knowledge to cross-functional teams, ensuring all are equipped with the insights needed to effectively represent our brand.
  7. Review seasonal performance data, tracking sales trends, hit rates, and SKU efficiencies. Leverage these insights to refine future assortments and maximize profit margins.
  8. Oversee merchandising teams, fostering a positive, inclusive work environment. Mentor team members, develop career paths, and create succession plans to support a dynamic, growth-focused team.

Requirements:

  1. 15+ years in product development/merchandising, preferably in ethical or sustainable retail.
  2. 10+ years in a leadership role managing cross-functional teams in merchandising and product development.
  3. Strong leadership skills with an ability to influence, inspire, and guide teams toward a common vision.
  4. High level of analytical and creative skills with an ability to synthesize data and trends.
  5. Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  6. Knowledge of fabrics, garment construction, and sustainable sourcing practices.
  7. Willingness to travel globally as required (approximately 3-4 times per year).
  8. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Merchandising, Fashion, or a related field.

Hybrid Schedule: 3 days in office Tuesday - Thursday

Salary Range: $200,000 - $300,000
