Senior Actuation Engineer $150,000 - $210,000 Poway, California Fully Time: Hybrid Our client, a world leader in the aerospace industry, with a speciality for reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radar, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems. Due to a period of sustained growth they are looking to expand their team and recruit for a Senior Actuation Engineer to join their team. In this role you will design and develop actuation systems for cutting-edge aircraft flight control and utility applications. This role involves working with advanced rotary and linear electromechanical actuators and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to ensure system-level success. The position is based in Poway, California, with a hybrid work model and a competitive Responsibilities Design and Development: Lead the design of actuation systems, including BLDC motors, gear trains, ball screws, bearings, and resolvers. Perform trade studies and ensure seamless integration into aircraft systems. Lifecycle Management: Oversee requirements definition, design reviews, procurement, manufacturing, and certification processes. System Optimization: Collaborate with cross-functional teams (EE, Controls, Software, Aero Structures, etc.) to ensure the integration of actuation systems. Technical Expertise: Serve as a technical leader and subject-matter expert for engineering systems, providing guidance and ensuring technical objectives are achieved. Product Support: Maintain and enhance existing actuation systems, addressing performance improvements and operational challenges. Compliance & Safety: Ensure compliance with safety standards, regulations, and reporting requirements. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree with 12 years of experience, Master’s degree with 10 years, or Ph.D. with 7 years in engineering or a related discipline. Extensive experience in engineering principles, project leadership, and system integration. Expertise in bearing and motor selection, gear design, 3D CAD modeling, and finite element analysis (FEA). Knowledge of hydraulic and electromechanical actuation systems, electromagnetic devices, and GD&T (ASME Y14.5). Familiarity with actuation system testing and qualification. Preferred Skills: Supervisory experience and professional recognition, including published work or symposium presentations, are a plus.
