Role Description Provide leadership to the Quality Assurance organization and play a key role in quality systems planning, food safety, research & development, and plant sanitation. Major Responsibilities / Accountabilities Product Quality / Food Safety: • Ensure the manufacture of products of the highest quality - outstanding in appearance, package presentation, performance and taste - by correctly handling and utilizing raw materials and Good Manufacturing, food Safety and Quality Practices. • Recommend measures to improve the quality of products and production methods. • Implement standards for product quality. • Maintain a shelf-life testing program and manage customer feedback for product improvements. • Develop a production system audit program where finished product and critical control points are monitored and evaluated. • Document and communicate results to production personnel and management. • Prepare and maintain product specifications which meet customer’s requirements. • Assessing customer requirements and ensuring that these are met • Setting customer service standards • Specifying quality requirements of raw materials with suppliers • Investigating and setting standards for quality and health and safety • Submission Documentation in support of license applications and customer requirements. • Noncompliance reporting and corrective action / continuous improvement implementation. • Evaluate and take corrective action, when necessary, with regard to product date coding and trade age management at all levels of product movement. • Accept responsibility of training and preparing new employees for this position. • Maintaining and managing all regulatory and private certifications and audits (i.e., Organic, HACCP, BRC, Non-GMO, Gluten Free, Kosher etc.). • Managing company pest control vendor and protocols to company standards. • Committed to maintain excellent Food Safety Culture within the organization. • Facilitating employee GMP, HACCP and company objectives training • Conducting internal audits and the documentation of such audits. • Investigating and closing off any consumer complaints and issuing corrective action reports. • Keeping facility in compliance with any 3rd party or regulatory inspections, paperwork, filings or corrective actions. • Administering, verifying and testing company traceability and recall systems. FDA Compliance: • Implement and manage the HACCP Program and serve as the primary interface with FDA inspection personnel. • Develop a system for product label development and file history. Approve all product labeling. Research & Development: • Oversee customer-specific and general product development and application of new ingredients, materials and equipment for the production system. • Participating in technological improvements for the production system and in Research & Development projects. Quality Control: • Responsible for the development, implementation, maintenance and improvement of the SQF programs. Human Resources / Safety: • Ensure a safe, clean and productive work environment, and maintain a positive employee relations climate throughout the organization. • Oversee the training of personnel in the performance of job responsibilities, including the safe and proper handling and/or use of material, tools, machinery, and equipment. • Maintain an adequately staffed, well qualified, and fully trained QA/QC Organization. • Work with Human Resources in the hiring of hourly operations employees and in the processing of the hourly employee payroll. Disperse and account for all hourly payroll funds. Sanitation: • Oversee the organization’s sanitation operation • Perform all evaluative tests and inspections.
