Job Summary:

Supervise the facility's day-to-day housekeeping and related functions to include staffing, supply ordering and supervision to ensure facility policy and standards are met.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

· As the Housekeeping Supervisor, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.

· Supervises Housekeepers and laundry aides

· Has the authority to hire, assign, appraise, discipline and terminate staff with administrator approval


Duties/Responsibilities:

Customer Service

· Demonstrates positive customer service when performing the role of the Housekeeping Supervisor, with residents, family members, facility staff and medical staff.

· Displays flexibility, team spirit compassion, respect, honesty, politeness and accountability when dealing with residents, family members and facility staff.

· Demonstrates an awareness of and sensitivity for resident's rights in all interfaces with residents and family members.

· Communicates effectively via open, straightforward communication, including use of listening skills and by accessing the appropriate chain of command.

· Seeks validation of knowledge base, quality, decision-making and skill level by actively questioning when necessary.

· Participates in interdisciplinary communication activities; actively listens and actively contributes.


Administrative Functions:

· Supervise staff in all aspects of cleaning and maintaining the facility interior and grounds.

· Ensure residents' rooms are safe, comfortable, and maintained in an attractive manner and residents' personal items are safeguarded.

· Ensure cleaning schedules are followed.

· Coordinate daily housekeeping services with other departments.


Committee Functions:

· Serve on, participate in, and attend various committees of the facility (i.e., Infection Control, Policy Advisory, Pharmaceutical, Budget Quality Improvement and Assurance, etc.) as required, and as appointed by the Administrator.

· Provide written and/or oral reports of the recreation service programs and activities as required, or as may be directed by such committee(s).

· Attend department head meetings, etc., as scheduled or as may be called.

· Schedule and announce departmental meeting times, dates, place, etc.


Personnel Functions:

· Supervise other staff in the day-to-day facility operations of assigned areas.

· Make job assignments and set priorities.

· Orient new staff and participate in recruitment and selection.

· Communicate policies, assist and coach as needed.

· Monitor work assignments, provide feedback, evaluate performance, and discipline as needed.

· Maintain records, manage budgets and supplies, and fulfill department head responsibilities.

· Ensure equipment and work areas are clean, safe and orderly.

· Enforce strict adherence to procedures regarding cleaners or hazardous materials or objects.

· Ensure Universal precautions and infection control, isolation, fire, safety, and sanitation practices and procedures are followed.

· Promptly address any hazardous conditions and equipment.

· Assist other in lifting as requested and function as a working supervisor in all areas of responsibilities as the departments budgeted hours and workload require.


Staff Development:

· Attend and participate in educational activities, in-service training, and staff meeting.

· Assist in orientation and training other staff.


Safety and Sanitation:

· Comply with, support and enforce Company policies involving all safety and infection control procedures to include the proper use of mechanical lifts, gait belts and personal protective back supports.


Equipment and Supply Functions:

· Report equipment malfunctions or breakdowns to your supervisor as soon as possible.

· Ensure supplies have been replenished in work areas as necessary.

· Ensure that work/assignment areas are clean and records, files, etc., are property stored before leaving such areas on breaks, end of workday, etc.


Quality Improvement:

· Participate in Quality Improvement activities as assigned.


Other Duties:

· Other duties as assigned or needed.


RESIDENT/PATIENT RIGHTS

· Understand, comply with and promote all rules and regulations regarding residents' rights.

· Promote positive relationships with residents, visitors, and regulators, to include presenting a professional appearance.


Expense Control

· Keep abreast of economic conditions/situations and recommend to the Laundry/Environmental Supervisor adjustments in laundry services that ensure the continued ability to provide quality service.


Education and Experience:

· Related experience at a level necessary to accomplish the job.

· Must have the ability to read, write and follow oral and written directions at a level necessary to accomplish the job.

· Must be able to relate positively and favorable to residents and families and to work cooperatively with other employees.

· Must maintain regular attendance.

· Must meet all local health regulations and pass post-employment physical exam if required. This requirement also includes drug screening, criminal background investigation, and reference inquiry.

· Must be capable of performing the Essential Job Functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation.


Physical Requirements:


· Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.

· Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.

· Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.

· Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.

· Must function independently, and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents/patients, personnel, and support agencies.

· Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a medical and physical examination.

· Must be able to relate to and work with the Ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility.

· Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 30 pounds to a minimum height of 4 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 15feet.

· Maybe necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents/patients during emergency situations.
