Our client, a Healthcare Agency in Boston, MA is seeking an organized and detail-oriented Accounting Associate to assist with the setup, maintenance, and review of grant and project data within the general ledger system. This role involves preparing journal entries, performing account reconciliations, supporting month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes, and working with various departments to ensure the accurate financial management of grants and projects. The ideal candidate will be proactive, have strong interpersonal and communication skills, and be able to work both independently and collaboratively.


This role is a contract position to start ASAP for 3-6 months. It is hybrid (4 days remote/1 day onsite in Boston). Pay is $25-$30hr, depending on experience.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the setup and maintenance of grants and projects in the general ledger system.
  • Act as a liaison between various internal departments such as grants, budget, revenue, and program offices.
  • Recommend improvements to enhance efficiency in grant/project setup and maintenance.
  • Prepare journal entries and perform balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial closings.
  • Provide backup documentation for external auditors as needed.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and ensure timely completion of tasks.
  • Calculate and post fringe benefits and indirect costs.
  • Develop and document accounting procedures and policies to improve financial processes.
  • Assist with miscellaneous accounting analyses and duties as assigned.
  • Perform confidential tasks and make independent decisions when necessary.
  • Support procurement-card processes and gift card reconciliations.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of two years of experience in an accounting or budget position, preferably in the public sector or nonprofit sector.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • Experience with general ledger software required (Microsoft Great Plains experience is a plus).
  • Experience with budget software, such as Oracle Hyperion Planning, is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field a plus.


Additional Information:

  • This role is a long-term contract opportunity. Must be a residient of Boston MA in order to be considered for a perm position.
