Head of Total Rewards

The Head of Total Rewards is responsible for shaping and leading DigitalOcean’s global compensation and benefits programs to attract, motivate, engage, and retain top talent. A key leader on the People Team, the Head of Total Rewards ensures that compensation and benefits programs support the organization's business objectives and meet all legal requirements. They oversee compensation processes, including survey participation, job evaluation, salary structure development, base pay administration, and incentive plan design and analysis. Leveraging their global experience, they manage global benefits planning and programs including health and welfare, retirement, and work life. This leader is influential in selecting outsourced providers and manages those relationships as well as the compensation and benefits budgets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implementing a total rewards strategy: In partnership with the CFO and the Head of People, the Head of Total Rewards participates in developing a strategy and oversees its implementation as well as the application of the compensation philosophy that aligns employee rewards with the company's objectives.
  • Analyzing market data: Leverages industry data sources and analyzes market data, industry trends, and best practices to create competitive and innovative reward packages that attract top talent.
  • Stock Plan Oversight: In compliance with SEC requirements, manages DigitalOcean’s equity program, including new hire grants, performance and promotion grants, and Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
  • Supporting Compensation Committee Content: Provides analysis and creates presentation of data to be shared with DigitalOcean’s Compensation Committee in compliance with public company standards and requirements. Includes Compensia third party analysis in Executive Compensation analysis and recommendations.
  • Overseeing global benefits: Analyzes usage, optimizes benefits plans, and maintains compelling competitive offerings to attract top talent. Works in partnership with the Finance team to determine budget, and oversees renewals, including negotiations with providers.
  • Leading a team: Leads a team of compensation and benefits professionals, including Data Analysts, Stock Plan and Benefits Administrators. Provides coaching and performance management to team members.
  • Ensuring compliance: Ensures that total rewards programs comply with all relevant laws, regulations, and company policies relevant to a publicly traded, global company.
  • Managing vendor relationships: Manages vendor relationships and negotiates contracts with external partners, including DigitalOcean’s stock plan partner and benefits brokers.
  • Staying current: Stays current with industry trends and legislative changes impacting total rewards.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in global compensation & benefits, and HR, with at least 3 years in a leadership capacity.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing global compensation and benefits programs.
  • Experience with Fidelity stock and retirement plans preferred.
  • Experience with Radford or similar market data.
  • Public company experience, preferably with a technology company.
  • Strong understanding of HR functions, processes, and best practices.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to think strategically while managing day-to-day operations.
  • Highly organized with outstanding attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Expertise in data analytics, HRIS systems, and project management tools.
