Position Overview The primary responsibility of the Sr Engineer – iSeries Power Systems is to implement, administer, and lead IBM Powers Systems and external storage. All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental and The Venetian Resort’s policies, practices, and procedures. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Accountable for new project development and enhancements to existing system programs and functions using iSeries / Power Systems environment. Provide Training and mentoring skills to iSeries / Power System Engineers I and II. Provide support and subject matter expertise for installations, configurations, maintenance and support of iSeries / Power Systems with regard to physical hardware, OS and virtualized environments to ensure proper performance and up-time. Resolve escalated complex service requests and incidents assigned to the team through the Help Desk Ticketing System as related to iSeries / Power Systems activities. Interact with vendors on support agreements (scope development), ticket management and issue escalations. Participate in projects to improve systems, processes and service delivery quality within the department. Perform analysis of utilization and performance of iSeries / Power Systems resources to ensure effective and efficient operations. Develop data to support any identified issues. Provide metrics to track issues which measure effectiveness of proposed solutions. Perform OS Administration (iSeries / Power System) activities like – Configuring users, creating and maintain file systems shares, backup, and permissions. Monitor server performance and error logs to identify and address issues, assuring continuity of services using various administrative management tools. Provide implementation, support, maintenance and documentation of server software and hardware configurations. Perform server software and hardware upgrades, patches (PTFs) and repairs using iSeries / Power System. Safety is an essential function of this job. Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this job. Performs other related duties as assigned. All Team Members are required to observe the Company’s standards, work requirements and rules of conduct. Minimum Qualifications 21 years of age. Proof of authorization/eligibility to work in the United States. Bachelor's degree in MIS or similar technical program or acceptable industry and work experience. Technical certifications (e.g., IBM System Administration 7.1) preferred. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Nevada Gaming Control Board Registration and any other certification or license, as required by law or policy. 5 years’ experience iSeries / Power Systems Administration including OS V7R1 Management. 5 years’ significant experience managing iSeries / Power Systems infrastructure including HMC, VIOS, Virtualization & External or Internal Storage (LPAR) and Patch Management (PTFs). Minimum 5years’ experience High Availability applications including iTera; configuration & administration. 5 years’ of experience with iSeries / Power Systems access, utility, security & auditing applications including IBM Client Access, Director, Navigator, BRMS, iSecurity, Help Systems, absMessage or related applications. Demonstrated high experience in: Systems Security management. Backup planning, installation and administration. Replication & disaster recovery administration. Virtual & physical role-swaps, fail-overs. Alerting and monitoring administration. System Monitoring system logs, alerting, security events, system health. CL for automation. System tuning, fault finding. Remote monitoring systems. Networking fundamentals including the OSI model, TCP/IP and IPv4. Data Center hands-on installation and configuration of new equipment. Analytical skills and ability to solve complex technical problems with little or no assistance. Leadership and mentorship skills in both technical acumen and work habits that can be afforded to colleagues. Working knowledge of: Change management and best practice procedures. Business continuity planning and execution. Network designs, components and devices. Design, implementation, and support of a proprietary application architecture. Capacity assessment (servers and network) and planning. Networking in distributed enterprise computing environment concepts Documentation knowledge (background in technical publications, general documentation) Release management (e.g. Turnover, Implementer). Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with guests and other Team Members of different backgrounds and levels of experience. Must be able to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays.
