Job Posting: Civil/Structural Field Engineer (Contract Position) Position Overview: We are seeking a Civil/Structural Field Engineer to support a high-profile government construction project located at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. This is a one-year contract position with the possibility of extension. The role includes a competitive per diem, mobilization support, and paid trips home every 28 days. This project is a significant initiative for modernizing enriched uranium operations, aiming to replace aging infrastructure with state-of-the-art facilities. The position requires flexibility, as work schedules may change and overtime may be needed to meet project demands. Key Responsibilities: Provide field engineering support for ongoing construction activities. Assist in resolving construction issues through meetings, correspondence, and documentation such as Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and Construction Deficiency Reports (CDRs). Review and provide engineering dispositions based on deliverables like steel and concrete calculations, finite element analysis of structures, and specifications. Coordinate and review technical documents across various engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction teams. Monitor work schedules and manage assigned project activities. Participate in constructability reviews to ensure efficiency and effectiveness. Mentor and guide junior engineers. Required Qualifications: Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in structural or civil engineering from an accredited institution with 9 years of progressive relevant experience, OR 15 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree. Active Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability to obtain one within 12 months. Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible to obtain site security clearance. Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and background check, including employment and education verification. Proficiency in structural analysis software (e.g., GTSTRUDL, SAP 2000) and CADD applications (e.g., MicroStation, Tekla). Thorough knowledge of engineering standards such as AISC Steel Construction Manual, ACI 318, and ASCE 7. Experience with construction methods for concrete and steel structures, as well as engineering deliverables like drawings and specifications. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Preferred Qualifications: Relevant experience on Department of Energy (DOE) projects or similar large-scale initiatives. Additional Information: Candidates must provide proof of U.S. citizenship and complete a security questionnaire to meet site access requirements. This position includes random drug and alcohol testing as a condition of employment.
