The role: We are seeking a high output RF Engineer to lead the design and development of RF communications hardware & telemetry systems (both front end and back end) for hypersonic test platforms and weapon systems. In this role you will be responsible for initial vehicle telemetry systems for hypersonic test flights and lead software defined radio (SDR) product development for weapon systems. The role will coordinate closely with engineering leadership and report directly to the Head of Avionics. A successful candidate will have significant experience delivering highly manufacturable RF/avionics hardware with extreme reliability for mission-critical applications in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities Test Radio Development: Rapidly design and implement telemetry systems using widely available components to support high-frequency flight tests. Flight Radio Development: Lead the design and prototyping of software-defined radio (SDR) systems, aiming for a complete RF system within three months and prototype demonstration by late Q1 2025 Telemetry System Development: Collaborate to deliver telemetry and command systems for test flights, achieving functional prototypes within six months. Team Leadership: Oversee design and system architecture reviews for RF avionics. Ensure alignment with high-frequency development cycles and hands-on testing. Standards and Reliability: Develop and enforce avionics design standards, including quality and reliability protocols for RF systems. End-to-End RF Hardware: Deliver scalable RF solutions, from initial link budgets to production-ready systems, with expertise in software-defined radios and TT&C systems. Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering (or related field). 5 years of experience in RF engineering, including design, modeling, and testing. Proficiency with RF tools such as HFSS, CST, MATLAB, Python, and test equipment like VNAs and spectrum analyzers. Experience developing and maintaining link budgets and field-testing RF systems in remote conditions. Preferred Skills Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering, specializing in RF/microwave engineering. Experience in RF applications such as radar, SIGINT, or wireless communications. Proficiency in modeling RF impairments, antenna theory, and SDR frameworks like GNU Radio. Proven ability to design and troubleshoot avionics systems, including RF harnesses and related components. Additional Requirements Willingness to work extended hours or weekends as needed to meet milestones. Ability to travel up to 10%.
