Introduction: We are seeking an experienced Civil Superintendent with expertise in civil infrastructure , underground utilities , and mass excavation to oversee and manage day-to-day operations on construction sites. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing civil projects, ensuring that work is completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality and safety standards. This role requires hands-on experience, leadership, and the ability to collaborate effectively with project managers, subcontractors, and the project team to ensure project success. Key Responsibilities: Site Supervision and Coordination: Oversee and manage all aspects of civil construction projects, including underground utilities (water, sewer, storm drainage), mass excavation, and civil infrastructure development. Supervise field operations, ensuring that construction activities are carried out according to the approved plans, specifications, and schedules. Coordinate daily activities on-site, including material deliveries, equipment usage, and the work of subcontractors and crew members. Ensure proper site preparation, including excavation and utility installation, with an emphasis on accuracy and quality. Leadership and Team Management: Lead and manage a team of field workers, laborers, and subcontractors, ensuring efficient and productive work processes. Provide on-site direction, motivation, and training to crew members, ensuring they understand their tasks and responsibilities. Enforce company policies, safety regulations, and industry standards on-site, ensuring a safe and productive work environment. Resolve any on-site issues related to work performance, safety, or project delays and take corrective actions as necessary. Quality Control and Safety Management: Ensure adherence to project specifications, quality control standards, and safety protocols on all civil infrastructure and utility installation tasks. Conduct daily inspections and safety meetings, maintaining a safe and compliant work environment by identifying and addressing potential hazards. Review and verify work quality, ensuring all tasks are completed to the highest standards and comply with local regulations. Ensure that all equipment is maintained and in good working order, performing routine checks as needed. Project Scheduling and Progress Tracking: Work closely with project managers to track and meet project schedules, providing updates on project milestones and progress. Assist in the development of project timelines and ensure that work is completed on time, coordinating with subcontractors and suppliers to maintain workflow. Report any delays or obstacles to project managers, proactively identifying solutions to keep projects on schedule. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of work completed, including daily reports, inspection logs, and material usage. Prepare and submit reports related to project status, including labor productivity, site conditions, and any issues or concerns. Assist in documenting changes or variations from the original scope of work and help manage change orders and RFIs (Requests for Information). Client and Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the main point of contact for clients, subcontractors, and vendors on-site, maintaining clear and professional communication. Address and resolve client concerns related to construction progress, quality, or safety in a timely and professional manner. Ensure that all stakeholders are kept informed of project status and changes through regular updates and meetings. Required Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent; a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred. Minimum of 3 years of experience in civil construction, with specific expertise in underground utilities (water, sewer, storm) and mass excavation. Proven experience in leading and supervising construction teams, including field staff and subcontractors. In-depth knowledge of civil construction methods, including excavation, trenching, shoring, and utility installation. Strong understanding of safety regulations and OSHA standards in the construction industry. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with team members and clients. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and plans. Proficiency in using construction management software or tools for scheduling, reporting, and project tracking (e.g., Procore, Buildertrend). Preferred Qualifications: OSHA certification or other relevant safety training. First Aid and CPR certification. Previous experience managing large-scale civil infrastructure or municipal utility projects. Experience with building information modeling (BIM) or 3D modeling software. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
