Senior System Engineer

We are hiring a Systems Engineer to play a pivotal role in modernizing and scaling our IT infrastructure. This position is primarily remote, but candidates must reside in the Phoenix metro area. The first 10-30 days will require on-site work, with periodic on-site presence (1-2 days per month or as needed for critical data center operations). The ideal candidate will have a deep technical background, with proven experience in taking on-premise environments and migrating them to Azure , as well as managing complex systems, server virtualization, and infrastructure in hybrid environments. Key Responsibilities Azure Migration : Assist and execute the migration of on-premise environments to Microsoft Azure, ensuring seamless integration and minimal downtime. Hybrid Environment Management : Architect, implement, and maintain robust hybrid infrastructure, balancing on-prem and cloud-based systems. Infrastructure Optimization : Monitor and maintain all mission-critical infrastructure, systems, and applications with a focus on continuous improvement. Strategic IT Systems Development : Help define the IT Systems Services strategy, focusing on scalable, secure, and efficient solutions in Azure and on-prem environments. Cross-Functional Collaboration : Work closely with Support, Security, and Engineering teams to design, implement, and support infrastructure solutions. Risk Mitigation : Evaluate and address technology, process, and resourcing risks, including backup, disaster recovery, and security protocols. Documentation and Process Improvement : Develop and maintain detailed documentation and processes for all IT systems and services. Vendor Management : Assess vendors and lead strategies for the procurement, rollout, and maintenance of new technologies. Technical Leadership : Act as a technical subject matter expert for Azure, Windows Server environments, VMware, and endpoint management tools like Intune. Troubleshooting and Triage : Assist with day-to-day operations, prioritizing and resolving escalated issues promptly. Job Qualifications Experience : Minimum of 5 years of progressive IT experience, including 2 years in Azure cloud environments. Proven hands-on experience migrating on-premise environments to Azure, including Exchange to Office 365 and hybrid cloud solutions. Expertise in VMware ESX/ESXi, Windows Server administration, and Office 365 Administration. Proficiency with Microsoft Intune, PowerShell scripting, and endpoint management tools. Technical Skills : In-depth knowledge of Windows AD/Entra ID, server virtualization, and disaster recovery solutions. Experience with server room operations, including firewalls, switches, cabling, UPS, monitoring, and server racking. Familiarity with storage solutions (Dell/HP SAN) and Linux/Windows hybrid systems. Preferred : Certifications such as Azure Administrator Associate, Azure Solutions Architect, or equivalent are highly desirable. Strong customer service mindset with the ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to non-technical stakeholders. Additional Requirements : Availability for occasional out-of-state travel, night/weekend work, and on-call support. Must be highly adaptable and thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environments.
