Two Rivers Public Charter School is looking for a dynamic, dedicated, flexible instructional leader to become the elementary school principal of a vibrant educational community. The position is available for SY 2025-2026. About Two Rivers Two Rivers Public Charter School serves a diverse group of 310 students in preschool through sixth grade, and will continue to add a grade each year, eventually serving students through the eighth grade. Staff at Two Rivers create an exciting educational environment in which students and staff become a community of learners on a journey of discovery. Two Rivers uses Expeditionary Learning Outward Bound, an educational model that emphasizes interactive, hands-on, project-based learning. The school focuses on the whole child, recognizing the importance of character education and the social-emotional needs of children while helping them achieve academic excellence. The Two Rivers staff shares a strong belief that all children can learn and be high achievers. The curriculum at Two Rivers is rigorous, standards-based, and provides opportunities for students to excel in all areas. An integrated arts program and a content-based Spanish program augment the school’s demanding academic program. These elements come together through learning expeditions that allow students to incorporate and apply their classroom learning through real-world experiences. The mission of Two Rivers is to nurture a diverse group of students to become lifelong, active participants in their own education, develop a sense of self and community, and become responsible and compassionate members of society. The Position Two Rivers is expanding and is creating this new position in order to allow a gifted educator and instructional leader to focus on the core mission of Two Rivers – a stellar instructional program. The Principal will report to the Executive Director and is responsible for personnel and programs in preschool through fifth grade. The Principal will ensure academic quality, evaluate academic achievement, support teachers’ professional development, and implement high standards for student behavior. The Principal is afforded autonomy while functioning as part of an administrative team to build a school program within a preschool through eighth grade model. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Setting an inspiring vision for the elementary school that is in line with the entire organization and sets high standards for students, staff, and families. Leading and managing a faculty of 20 people. Overseeing an instructional budget and sharing governance of the total overall school operating budget. Serving on the school’s leadership team and other committees as needed and collaborating with other school leaders on school issues. Assisting in hiring teachers and staff. Evaluating teachers and staff. Planning, implementing, and supporting teachers’ professional growth and development. Overseeing scheduling and implementation of an academic program for preschool – fifth grade that provides appropriate educational opportunities for all students. Ensuring that standards, assessment, and curriculum are aligned and support the school goals. Using multiple sources of data to develop a plan for the constant improvement of student achievement. Ensuring that students moving to sixth grade are prepared for a rigorous middle school program. Developing and maintaining an atmosphere of openness, confidentiality, and trust. Communicating with parents regularly through meetings, publications, and information discussions. Developing personal relationships with students to empower their student achievement and support their social-emotional learning and classroom behavior. Creating and fostering a community of learners. Maintaining a positive school climate for all stakeholders. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Staff at Two Rivers are part of an energetic and caring team devoted to creating an incredible school. Ideal candidates will possess the following qualities/skills: Clear understanding of curriculum, instruction, and child development. Expertise in early childhood development and education. Extensive knowledge of instruction, including differentiated learning strategies. Familiarity with and support of the Expeditionary Learning and Responsive Classroom models. Demonstrated ability to integrate curriculum across academic disciplines. Demonstrated ability to teach in ways that are interactive, hands-on, project-based, and promote self-discovery and critical thinking. Extensive knowledge of literacy and math instruction and ability to lead teachers to create classroom environments that emphasize and support literacy and math across all content areas. Demonstrated ability to guide staff and students to achieve high academic expectations. Ability to model shared leadership and decision-making strategies. Commitment to meet the needs of every child in a diverse population. Capability to nurture staff and students and work collaboratively with families. Ability to communicate effectively with different audiences using a variety of methods. Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced, highly disciplined, but sometimes unpredictable school environment. Willingness to work autonomously, collaboratively, and/or under the direction of senior staff, as needed. Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to work as a member of a team. Commitment to develop and contribute to a community of educators. Flexibility, commitment, and enthusiasm. Candidates should have a master’s degree in education, at least two years of classroom experience, and at least two years of administrative experience. Principal licensure is preferred.
