Salary Ranges:
Transportation Engineer I (B24):
$65,104 - $106,634
Transportation Engineer II (B25):
$69,572 - $114,099
Transportation Engineer III(B26):
$76,530 - $129,430

Position Description
Performs transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities.
Employees at the Transportation Engineer I level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
Employees at the Transportation Engineer II level perform work independently on assignments; however all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Employees at the Transportation Engineer III level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.
Essential Duties:
Transportation Engineer I
Education: Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.
Experience:
Transportation Engineer I: 4 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience
Transportation Engineer II: 5 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience
Transportation Engineer III: 6 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience
(Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis . Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Essential Duties:
Transportation Engineer I
- May serve as a lead worker and the related tasks.
- Performs and/or coordinates the review and processing of Plans, Specifications & Estimates (PS&E) submission, special
specifications or special provisions. - Performs engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and
contracts. - Provides design engineering support for districts in project development.
- Reviews and revises schematics, PS&E, project designs, shop drawings and field changes for traffic control devices,
signals, signs, markings, detours, traffic control plans, electrical distribution and roadway lighting and traffic management
systems. - Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
- Performs complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and
contracts. - Assists with design, computer operations and plan preparation.
- Performs advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications,
estimates and contracts. - Performs complex hydrologic and hydraulic analysis of structures over waterways and summarizes the analysis in report
form. - Reviews and supports Standard Operating Procedures for maintaining and archiving project schedules; managing resources;
managing budgets; managing project changes, and managing quality performance measurements. - Utilizes project management principles in initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling and closing for
complex transportation projects.
