Job Description

Job Summary

The Sr. Engineer-Geotechnical/Marine position provides marine engineering and naval architectural related engineering support for the company's fleet of Mobile Offshore Drilling Units, including jack-ups, semi-submersibles, and drillships, in accordance with industry codes and standards. This support includes engineering assessments of suitability of locations for jack-ups, moored/DP floating MODU's.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conducts site assessment analysis for jack-up rigs to assess suitability of drilling site and compile results into a high-quality report to support the location approvals.
  • Reviews geotechnical reports, third party leg penetration analysis and site assessment reports.
  • Supports operations during the rig move process including afloat, preloading and elevated drilling and storm conditions.
  • Provides practical and cost-effective solutions for location specific hazards.
  • Reviews third party analysis for compliance with Company standards and applicable codes, rules and regulations.
  • Works toward achievement of team and individual goals, in support of company strategic goals.
  • Reviews and executes modifications to the marine operations manual in line with rig modifications and upgrades.
  • Conducts and reviews mooring and DP station keeping analysis.
  • Performs Naval Architecture engineering analysis and provide support to implement regulatory requirements and guidelines for operations and new builds.
  • Reviews stability software inputs and perform periodical review of lightship records.
  • Conducts, supervises deadweight survey and inclining experiment for the Valaris fleet.
  • Coordinates regulatory and classification body review and approvals.
  • Maintains current knowledge of marine industry standards, practices, and methodologies as well as Class, IMO, flag/coastal state requirements, SNAME, ISO and industry standards.
  • Works with multi-disciplinary staff, coordinates engineering work with in-house resources, 3rd party consultants, and/or vendors to ensure compliance with applicable code, rules and regulations, company policies and procedures.
  • Assists with the development of engineering procedures and standards.
  • Performs other duties as required by management.
Qualifications / Education
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Ocean Engineering or Naval Architecture/Marine Engineering with relevant working experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years in a similar role with an offshore drilling contractor, rig designer or related engineering consultancy.
Skills & Experience
  • Technical skills in jack-up site assessment, soil investigation, soil mechanics and foundation engineering, naval architecture and marine engineering are highly required.
  • Working knowledge of Classification Rules, Statutory Regulations, International Maritime Organization (IMO) Codes, SNAME, ISO and industry standards
  • Experience in role-related software e.g. JUSTAS, AQWA, Orcaflex, Rhino, NAPA, GMoor, AutoCAD.
  • Strong analytical, organizational and time management skills, including ability to manage prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Perform duties onsite but also require travel to onshore and offshore locations, both domestically and internationally including shipyards, docks or other repair facilities, customer offices, etc.
  • Ability to work self-directed and to develop solutions to complex technical problems
  • Good communication skills: oral and written
