Overview
Join us as a Optical Network Engineer where you'll work with a team of talented network engineers where you will develop your technology skills to plan, design, and implement a leading optical and microwave network.Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities- Plan, design, and implement the Cisco Dense Wavelength-Division Multiplexing (DWDM), Microwave, and OSP fiber cable network
- Develop the detailed design architecture, engineering plans, scope of work, bill of materials, costs and schedules related to DWDM, Ethernet, SONET, and Microwave, Wireless/RF Infrastructure
- Develop Method of Procedures (MOP) to guide processes over network change management and troubleshooting network issues
- Design the critical optical network that supports: Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Feeder Relay Protection, Remote Terminal Units (RTU), and telecommunication services between the Energy Control Centers and substations, corporate LAN and Data Centers
- Supervise and manage the network equipment installation vendors, and review the installation As-Built
- Travel to our service region covering NYC, boroughs, Westchester, Duchess County, northern New Jersey, and Orange and Rockland Counties to support 24/7 coverage of the computing and telecommunications infrastructure
- Must be flexible and able to work off-hours as required to support deployments, resolve production problems or respond to corporate emergencies
- Perform other related tasks and assignments as required
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience- Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's Degree preferably in Information Technology, Computer Science or Engineering and a minimum of (3) years of IT experience or
- Associate's Degree Bachelor's Degree preferably in Information Technology, Computer Science or Engineering and a minimum of (5) years of IT experience or
- High School Diploma/GED and a minimum of (7) years of IT experience
- Strong working knowledge of Passive, active OADM & ROADM DWDM systems Required
- Broad understanding of optical theory, transport technologies and the operation of optical transport systems including SONET, TDM, DWDM, and Microwave Required
- Evaluating new technologies, standard network design and management Required
- Understanding of cyber security principles Required
- Preferred familiarity with Cisco NCS2006 / 15454 MSTP / 15454 MSPP / and Cisco EPNM application Required
- Background or working knowledge of Radio Frequency communications and basic understanding of the Federal Communications Commission Required
- Well organized, detail oriented and flexible to handle multiple assignments
- Excellent collaboration and team building skills
- Strong verbal communication and listening skills
- Other: Personal Vehicle Required
- Must push, pull, lift up to 40 pounds
- Must sit or stand to use a keyboard, mouse, and computer for entire shift
- Must have excellent manual dexterity and be able to use hands for entire shift
- Must stoop, bend, reach and kneel throughout the workday
- Must be able to read small print and symbols.
- Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
- Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as a hard hat, gloves, and safety shoes when required
